The guard escorted An Hao home, and the door was locked with no one around. An Hao took out her key to unlock the door and invited Xiaoliu inside.
Xiaoliu set down his belongings and prepared to leave, "Sister-in-law, I must hurry back now! Whenever you’ve had enough of your stay, I’ll come to pick you up!"
An Hao didn’t insist on him staying. She turned around and took two boxes of water chestnut cakes from her own purchases and handed them to Xiaoliu, "You’ve worked hard this year! Take these home for your family to try."
"I am the Commander’s guard, these matters are all part of the job... Sister-in-law, no need to thank me! I can’t accept these," Xiaoliu declined.
"You must take them! The New Year is approaching, and this is my heartfelt gesture!" An Hao insisted, stuffing the gifts into Xiaoliu’s hands and ushering him out, while reminding him, "Remember, when you have time, stop by the mall and bring my coat back if it’s arrived."
After the guard left, An Hao organized everything she had brought.
