In the car, An Hao leaned against the seat, her knee throbbing with pain that made her shiver uncontrollably.
"Does it hurt a lot?" Qin Jian saw that her lower lip was turning white from biting it and his face was full of concern.
"Mhm," acknowledged An Hao with a nod. She had been worried that her kneecap might have shattered in that moment.
"With such heavy rain, why didn’t you stay put in the school instead of running around recklessly?" Qin Jian’s face turned stern as he lectured An Hao, relieved that her bones weren’t seriously damaged. If her bones had been hurt, he would have been devastated.
"Isn’t it because I finally had a day off and wanted to come see you? If it weren’t for missing you, I wouldn’t have come! If I hadn’t come, I wouldn’t have encountered that nasty car and gotten into this mess, and I wouldn’t have hurt my leg!" An Hao was already in pain, and suddenly being scolded with such a grave face made her feel a bit wronged.
"An Hao, I’m not scolding you! I’m reasoning with you! Next time it’s raining and there’s no need, don’t run around; isn’t it better if I come to see you?" Qin Jian raised his voice slightly.
"Is it necessary to be so stern when reasoning? And why are you raising your voice at me!" Accustomed to Qin Jian’s usually silent but tender demeanor with her, An Hao was taken aback to see him scold someone and felt wronged, her eyes welling up with tears.
