Chapter 27: School (4)
Adam was alone in his new office. He looked around the small empty room. The silence was deafening. He sat down at the desk. The chair squeaked under his weight. Adam was very nervous.
He had never imagined he would get this job. He had been so sure the principal would reject him. And now he had to teach a class. In less than an hour. He did not know what to do.
He had never done anything like this before. He had managed things at the hotel. He had managed schedules and supplies. But this was completely different. This was managing people. Managing children.
He felt a familiar urge. A coping mechanism he had developed in the last few days. He took his mobile phone out of his pocket. He opened the One-Click Billionaire app.
He started tapping. The rhythmic motion was calming. The sight of the numbers climbing on the screen was a distraction. It was a habit now.
Whenever he felt worried sad or angry he would open this app. He would spend his time here making money. It was his escape.
An hour was almost up. He looked at the clock on his phone. He had been tapping for forty-five minutes straight. He put his phone down.
He felt frustrated with himself. "I’ve spent almost the whole time doing this," he muttered.
"And now what do I do?" He had made one hundred and fifty thousand dollars in those forty-five minutes. The thought was absurd. He had made more money sitting in this office than most of the teachers here would make in a year.
He thought to himself I’ve made so much money in such a short time. Even the teachers here probably don’t earn this much. He wondered why he was even doing this job. He had no shortage of money.
