Chapter 18: Crypto
Adam stood on the sweltering sidewalk. The outing was called off. He was still hungry, though. He had a better idea. He would place online food orders.
That was something he had never done before. The cost had always been prohibitive. A needless lavish lifestyles. However, he now possessed millions of dollars. He had the money.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. He downloaded a well-known food delivery app from the app store. He browsed the list of eateries in the area.
The options were numerous. Mexican, Chinese, and Italian. He had only ever dined at the cheapest burger joints and noodle stands. He picked a reputable Italian eatery.
He placed an order for a large pizza with extra cheese and garlic bread on the side. He tapped once to pay for it. The entire procedure was easy. It was simple.
His door was knocked on a few moments later. The delivery man was the one. He gave Adam a box of hot pizza. Adam returned inside after taking the food. He opened the box while seated on his tiny apartment’s floor.
The room was filled with the aroma of freshly baked bread and melted cheese. He consumed the whole pizza by himself. He had never had a better meal.
Adam went to the kitchen to get a glass of water after he had finished his meal.
On the counter, where he had left Sophia’s empty noodle bowl to dry, he noticed it. She had most likely been waiting for him to give it back this morning, he realized.
A twinge of guilt ran through him. But he waved it away. It did not matter. Tonight he would return it to her.
