Chapter 20: Capítulo 20: Meeting the Gods (2)
Despite the pressure I felt in their presence, I didn’t feel threatened. I could feel a gaze full of warmth, one that felt like my parents’ gaze upon me, making me feel secure and protected.
The two gods approached me. The Goddess of the Moon, with her golden veil and electric-blue eyes like a storm, was the first to speak.
"What a pleasure, we finally meet you in person, dear herald! We’ve been watching you, you know? It’s been... quite entertaining. Especially these last few days. You’re quite the character, Jax." Her voice was like the sound of a bell, melodious and soothing. Even her soft chuckle felt like being caressed with velvet, making me feel strangely aroused. It was as if her entire body emanated pheromones that made me want to pounce on her and slam her against the wall.
The God of Time, his movements leaving lingering afterimages, nodded with a calm smile. "Certainly. Your path has been... peculiar." His voice was deep and grave, carrying the bearing of a powerful warrior.
My surprise was immense. They’d been watching me? And getting a kick out of it? Despite the strangeness of the situation, I felt comfortable enough to ask the question that had been eating at me since I arrived in this world.
"Were you the ones who brought me to this world? Why was I brought here? Why can’t I go back to my world if I’ve already defeated the Demon King? The king told me there’s no way back."
"Ah, that. It’s an ancient pact, you see. An agreement with the Goddess Gaia of your planet. We can call warriors from your world to this one, in exchange for them being returned once their training here is complete. A sort of divine exchange program, if you want to call it that. She gains experienced warriors, and we... well, you’ll know that someday."
The God of Time added: "Furthermore, the king only knows part of the truth. The way back... that you must discover for yourself. We can’t reveal it directly. It would interfere with your own growth and with the balance. Gods cannot interfere in the mortal world beyond the original pact."
So there was a way back? Relief mixed with frustration. Why all the secrecy? Wouldn’t it be better to just tell me straight? But before I could ask more, the Goddess of the Moon continued.
"You must become strong, Jax. From now on, we will be here to protect your guild, those you choose to walk alongside you. We long to see what you will do, the path you will forge."
The God of Time slightly inclined his head. "You have a unique opportunity. Until now, you were trained by the kingdom as a warrior against the Demon King. Many of your current abilities... well, let’s just say they won’t do you much good for the true path that awaits you. The divine system displays all the gods’ abilities and allows you to learn from all of them. These abilities, each god designed for their warriors. As long as you remain neutral, you’ll always have access to all of them, but once a side is chosen, the other gods’ abilities become locked."
