Chapter 16: Closing the Deal (+18)
I left the party with a smile that couldn’t hide my intentions. Manaia had left, embarrassed, but I knew exactly where she was going. Before heading to her hut, I approached Zyra and Vira, who were still near the main table.
"Zyra and Vira, for today, assign others to patrol. Also, tell Zela, Lira, and Leila to rest. Tomorrow, they’ll come with me to explore the area. Choose all those who intend to learn to fight; I don’t want anyone forced, only those women who can aid Helen."
Both guards nodded, their faces showing a mix of surprise and relief. I understand how they feel; losing their purpose must not be easy; they must feel useless, but I won’t let anyone in this place be useless. I have plans for everyone; even the children have a purpose.
With that settled, I headed to Manaia’s hut. I found her inside, sitting on the ground, with her head in her hands. She looked up as I entered, and her cheeks flushed red.
"Jax... You shouldn’t have done that in public; it’s so embarrassing," Manaia said, her voice barely a whisper.
I approached, kneeling in front of her. "You’re mine, Manaia. You don’t have to hide it. Didn’t you like it? Don’t you want to shout it to the world?"
She hesitated for a moment, her eyes avoiding mine. "Yes, I liked it... but I don’t feel comfortable."
"And how would you feel comfortable?" I asked, my voice soft but firm, inviting her to be honest.
Her eyes returned to mine. "When we’re alone..."
"Just like now," I replied, and without waiting, I activated two abilities: [Silence] [Mirage].
