Chapter 784 - 783: Is Everyone Reading?
Wei Zhongxun took a glance inside and quickly returned to the temporary accommodation in the civilian house.
"Master, there’s nothing there." Wei Zhongxun thought for a moment and added, "But that place always gives off a strange vibe."
"How so?" Desan asked beside him.
Wei Zhongxun pondered before speaking: "It always seems that the desolate, uninhabited feeling is deliberately created."
Indeed, that’s right, it’s exactly this feeling.
After articulating this feeling, it became even more intense.
Beisitian nodded; when she spotted the small warehouse from afar, she knew she hadn’t come to the wrong place. Since there appeared to be nothing on the surface, perhaps there would be clues leading to the next step, or even hidden wonders inside?
Later, Wei Zhongxun went once more but hadn’t explored thoroughly before he spotted several silhouettes. He quickly retreated, made a large detour to confirm he wasn’t being followed, and then returned to the civilian house.
"I’ve been discovered," Wei Zhongxun said awkwardly.
Beisitian empathized with him; though Mystic Doctor wasn’t completely pampered, investigating wasn’t their forte. Wei Zhongxun managing to find something amiss was commendable.
"But don’t worry, I didn’t let anyone follow me," Wei Zhongxun chuckled, but his laughter quickly faded as a knocking sound came from outside the door.
Their stay here was temporary; it was unlikely anyone knew them, leaving only one possibility—Wei Zhongxun had been trailed!
Wei Zhongxun’s face suddenly became serious, even Desan’s expression shifted.
Seeing Wei Zhongxun about to leave, Beisitian gestured for calm and held a packet of medicine powder in her hand, indicating she would handle it.
Wei Zhongxun couldn’t let Beisitian take risks, blocking her regardless of what she said; he wouldn’t let her endanger herself!
Seeing his insistence, Beisitian reluctantly handed the packet over, letting him check it out.
Wei Zhongxun knew the medicine could harm, clenching it in his hand as he exited the house and crossed the yard. He listened, then opened the door.
At first glance, it was empty; Wei Zhongxun saw no one, but then felt a tightness at his foot and looked down to see a small child staring up at him.
"Uncle, this is for you." The child handed him a note.
Wei Zhongxun was startled, accepting the paper, while the child bounced away, disappearing into the alley. He unfolded the note, contemplating its message in silence.
Closing the main door securely, Wei Zhongxun returned inside, handing the paper to Beisitian, summarizing it briefly.
Beisitian opened it, her forehead veins twitching.
"How dense! Enter through the small warehouse’s back door; at the bottom of Box 17 is a circular handle—turn it to proceed. If I hadn’t mentioned it, would you remain unable to access it throughout your life? Hurry over; it’ll blow your mind!"
Despite the beautiful handwriting, the tone was irritating!
Beisitian coldly burned the paper to ashes, gathering the others to proceed.
Following Bei Jiale’s method, they indeed found a half-height door behind the small warehouse, inconspicuous with graffiti that could easily be overlooked even upon a close approach.
The trio entered one by one, searching for Box 17 amidst the disorganized placement, finally locating it behind several large cargo boxes.
Wei Zhongyuan turned the circular handle at the bottom of Box 17, instantly accompanied by a loud rumble as a dark hole appeared next to a large cargo box two meters away.
The three gathered around the hole; a staircase led downward. They exchanged glances, sensing the situation was shrouded in mystery and eeriness, wondering if descending meant being trapped inside.
Beisitian hesitated, reexamining Bei Jiale’s message, then decided to venture down.
"Third Doctor, let’s wait here," Beisitian told Desan.
Desan shook his head vigorously, "Let’s go together; what if we’re discovered and captured?"
Wei Zhongxun was speechless; wasn’t his courage a bit too small? Among these cargo boxes, one could easily hide for ages without being noticed.
Desan ignored him, only looking at Beisitian.
Beisitian considered and chose to bring Desan along. With the decision made, the three ventured into the dark abyss.
The staircase wasn’t short, about as deep as two stories. Safely landing, they found themselves facing a passage leading to an unknown destination, dim lamps on the walls creating a sinister atmosphere.
Wei Zhongxun led the way, the three moving forward until a turn spat them into surprise.
Two robed figures stood at the entrance, showing no astonishment at their arrival.
"Welcome," they said in unison, bowing ninety degrees in a ’please’ gesture, and the door behind them swung open.
The trio exchanged looks, perceiving an increasing eeriness in the situation.
Having come this far, retreat wasn’t an option. Beisitian trusted Bei Jiale from the heart, deciding to go inside and investigate.
Inside, reality astonished them—no scene of Mystic Doctors being tortured or gruesome violence. They faced something resembling an enormous library!
While labeled a library, it differed—a vast underground area with diverse styles for each zone—a business district, leisurely corners, unregulated but still library-like.
Regardless of decor, there was a commonality: everyone was engrossed in reading, reinforcing the library impression.
Beisitian and the others were astounded; if their guess was correct, the vanished doctors and Mystic Doctors were here—reading?
"Please find yourselves an area and do not engage in conflict. Any conflict, whether right or wrong, will lead to expulsion!"
The speaker was a middle-aged man with neatly combed hair, dressed sharply in a Zhongshan suit, holding three papers, saying: "These are the guidelines. Please adhere to them meticulously and avoid disrupting order!"
Three grabbed a paper each; even Beisitian was baffled—what was this? Wasn’t this supposed to be the kidnappers’ hideout?
Observing, she noticed the people weren’t abductees but complying willingly to remain!
Desan gazed thoughtfully, murmuring, "What do you think they’re reading? Why are they so engrossed?"
Beisitian and Wei Zhongxun snapped to the realization—could their stay be related to the books they held?
