Chapter 47: Little Puppy
Seeing the wolf run away, the villagers thought it had been scared off. Some young men, waving hoes and sticks, shouted loudly, excited as if they had been injected with adrenaline.
Even from a distance, many realized it wasn’t a wolf but a wolfdog. However, they thought if it was a dog, its eyes appeared too fierce!
Beisitian silently sighed in her heart, always feeling like she was being harassed by the wolfdog.
She understood what the wolfdog meant; it was obviously seeking help, likely for the little wolfdog.
Beisitian recalled the last-born wolfdog. After being born, it still had amniotic fluid in its nasal cavity. Had it been born any later, it would likely have suffocated.
Though it wasn’t dead, it didn’t seem optimistic. At that time, she hung the puppy upside down to help drain the fluid from its nose, but it was clearly smaller and weaker than the others.
Beisitian didn’t think about ignoring it; she believed in seeing things through to the end.
The villagers dispersed after the wolf ran away, as few were herding sheep at this time and most were occupied at home. Beisitian ascended the North Slope while no one was watching.
After crossing the North Slope, she saw the wolfdog waiting in the mountain hollow, wagging its tail excitedly upon seeing her.
Beisitian descended the slope and patted its head, "Now this is more like a dog. Don’t always be so fierce."
She noticed the wolfdog’s fierce look when facing the villagers’ shouts and curses, making it understandable why it was mistaken for a wolf.
Seeing the wolfdog naturally leading the way, Beisitian hesitated slightly before following it. She carried two packets of stimulating medicine powder that had a strong effect on wolfdogs, as well as a packet of burning talisman powder.
