Chapter 24: Embarrassment
As it was already evening, Ryu was granted temporary stay in the guard post. There were even two small rooms side by side.
He glanced one last time at the moonlit night before heading into his quarter to rest. Once inside, he morphed back into his dragon form, finding it more comfortable for recovery and conserving energy.
Tonight, he would not attempt any more fusion. He needed to stabilize after the recent transformation. This night, he would simply rest.
But he would not be careless like the night before. Even in half-sleep, he kept his senses alert—no matter how exhausting it was.
The night gradually deepened, accompanied by cold winds howling like a distant storm.
The couple, who had been on guard duty until midnight, finally returned to their own quarters, seeking shelter from the cold.
Ryu, still alert, noticed their presence in the adjacent room.
He could hear their voices clearly through the thin walls.
But to his disappointment, they weren’t speaking any secrets, nor plotting to harm him.
What he heard instead... was something obscene.
"Wait, John, not tonight. That boy is in the next room. He might hear us."
