Chapter 68: Dungeon Unlocked
When Ryan finished speaking, he knew—without needing to check, that everyone in the party would choose an auction. Rolling for loot left too much up to chance. An auction, at least, guaranteed something in return—even if you didn’t win the item itself.
Sure enough, the first to step forward was Riverbank Grass.
"I’ll go with the auction," she said with a chuckle. "Not too confident in my luck." sge stepped aside to see what the others would choose.
"I’m in too," said Moonlight Beauty. "Nothing here really interests me. Just give me some coin later." She glanced over at Nightwalker.
Nightwalker raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "You’ve both chosen. Why are you looking at me?" He smirked. "I’d usually go for rolling, but if most of you are choosing auction, I’ll go along with it. It’s fairer that way."
"Alright," Ryan nodded. "Since everyone’s in agreement, we’ll do a gold coin auction."
He pulled out a small pile of glimmering gems.
"These are worth about twenty gold coins in total," he continued. "Let’s start the bidding at ten gold. Anyone interested?"
"I’ll bid fifteen—no, sixteen!" Riverbank Grass jumped in quickly. Then, checking her inventory, he grimaced. "Don’t fight me for it, alright? I won’t bid on anything else."
"They’re all yours. I don’t even have two gold coins," Nightwalker said with a shrug. He turned to Moonlight Beauty and Ryan. "Neither of you want them?"
"I’m good," Moonlight Beauty replied with a wave of her hand. "If I ever need gems, I’ll just buy them from a merchant."
Ryan shrugged as well. With no competition, he completed the trade, handing the gems over to Riverbank Grass in exchange for sixteen gold coins.
