Chapter 38: Into the Fire, Through the Ash
Evelyn snatched the Level 7 short bow from Ryan’s hand, her face lighting up with delight. With barely a second thought, she swapped out her current ranged weapon and admired the new bow like a prized jewel.
"You wouldn’t believe it," she said excitedly. "Hunter bows and rifles are ridiculously rare. I was still using a Level 5 rifle earlier, and even that cost me a whole gold coin!"
She pouted slightly, as if expecting sympathy. Ryan gave her a sidelong glance, his expression mildly puzzled.
"Is that so?" he murmured, unconvinced, before turning back toward the depths of the dungeon.
They ventured further down the twisting mine, and after dispatching a pair of ghoul guards, the monsters began changing. New threats emerged—creatures hunched and ragged, armed with pickaxes and blind persistence.
