For a time, everyone went to the hall at Mrs. Wang’s to sit down and talk. Except for the maids who attended to them closely, the rest were taken by the managing ladies of the manor to rest.
Third Madam Shi and her husband took their two daughters to greet Mrs. Wang and Second Master Shi and his wife again, having their daughters call on them.
When Shi Yuzhen left, she already had memories and could vaguely match the faces in front of her with those in her memory. She sweetly curtsied and greeted everyone one by one. Hearing the warm responses from her eldest aunt and second aunt, a sense of long-lost affection suddenly filled her heart, and she relaxed. For Shi Yulin, apart from her parents, sister, and wet nurse, all others were strangers. Feeling slightly intimidated, she quickly greeted them and then retreated to stand by her sister’s side while holding her hand.
After they had offered their greetings, Fengju, Sang Wan, and the others inevitably went to greet their uncle and aunt, going through a fair bit of motion before finally settling down to talk.
Mrs. Jiang then led Shi Yuzhen and her sister, along with their wet nurses, into the warm pavilion with smiling accompaniment, ordering someone to pour tea, and preparing fruits and refreshments as hosts, while the elders also started conversing in the hall.
"I truly did not expect you to arrive today; ah, we haven’t prepared anything yet!" Mrs. Wang said with a sigh, spreading her hands slightly.
Third Master Shi and his wife took the elder sister’s words as mere politeness. Third Master Shi quickly said with a laugh, "We’re all family here; there’s no need for such formalities. Elder sister’s words are too distant!"
"Indeed!" Third Madam Shi also said with a smile.
Mrs. Wang sighed, "I’m glad you understand, now I can rest easy! Isn’t it an odd coincidence? Fengju and I had just finished reading the letter you sent back, and we hadn’t even had time to pass it to Second Uncle and Second Brother and his wife. Truly, we had prepared nothing, and right on the heels of that, you arrived at the manor! This is really—haha, so coincidental!"
