Mrs. Fang, upon hearing Sang Wan’s implication that their family had to go along with them, was immediately so enraged that she responded indifferently, "We are leaving at dawn. We’ve hired a carriage to come pick us up at home."
Upon hearing this, Mrs. Li just let out an "oh" and finally left for home.
As soon as she entered her own house, Mrs. Li’s face fell, and she sighed heavily, complaining to Second Master Sang, "You’re way too stingy, unwilling to prepare anything! There you go, just waiting for everything to be handed to you at home, and all you did was prompt me to ask around. My old face was almost left with nowhere to rest because of all the talking!"
Second Master Sang rolled his eyes, unimpressed. How could he not know what kind of person his wife was? It wasn’t about having no place for her ’old face’ – she just wanted to gripe to him.
"Enough, enough, cut the nonsense!" Second Master Sang waved his hand to interrupt her, asking, "So, how did it go? Are they all ready? When are they leaving tomorrow? Is the carriage hired?"
With suppressed anger, Mrs. Li reported what she had found out. Second Master Sang complained, "Didn’t you take a look at what they’ve prepared yourself?"
"It’s none of your business what they prepare!" Mrs. Li snapped back, "I had to bear with their cold faces for so long. Don’t get too happy just yet, hmmph, they might not be willing to take us with them!"
"They wouldn’t dare!" Second Master Sang huffed, "We’re the elders, how dare they leave us behind! Just wait till I break their backbone!"
