Chapter 165 - 162: I am Li Si’s Friend
The two drank and chatted. A female waitress delivering drinks recognized Yin Xian and claimed to be a friend of Li Si, saying she had met Yin Xian before.
This made Ye Duowei furious. She already felt a sting in her heart like a thorn whenever Li Si was mentioned, and now Yin Xian had actually met her friend? Could this relationship still be simple?
So, fueled by alcohol, she began acting hysterical, screaming and hitting Zhou Rou, leaving her humiliated. Everyone else stood around and watched, but not a single person stepped in to help.
Zhou Rou regretted her actions deeply, as if her guts were being twisted. She had originally thought that meeting Yin Xian at this gathering was a matter of fate. Ever since her fallout with Li Si, she had been obsessed with the idea of climbing to the top and making a name for herself. But life is never so simple or effortless.
She had no degree, no skills, just a somewhat decent appearance. She didn’t want to work in tough, demanding jobs, only seeking quick rewards, so only certain industries could bring her fast money.
Yet, she didn’t want to lower her worth too much, clinging to some sense of dignity and limits. After arriving in Beijing, she became destitute, unable to find work, and squeezed into a tiny space in her brother Zhou Gang’s dorm, enduring his ridicule and contempt.
Finally, unable to bear it any longer, she gritted her teeth and found the job she now had, moving into a dorm room and at least having a place to stay. After a few months of work, besides her wage and tips, her monthly earnings were considerable—at least more than Zhou Gang made!
But today, everything plummeted to rock bottom; not only did she lose her job, but she also lost her place to stay. This month’s salary was a meager 1,500 yuan, which was only because her usually good relationships earned her support from the supervisor who fought for it.
If it weren’t for that, she wouldn’t have gotten even this amount. The hefty manager’s reason for her dismissal was that she had offended a guest who couldn’t be provoked, damaging the bar’s reputation and business.
The New Year was around the corner, and she had originally planned to wait until Zhou Gang’s company closed for the Lunar New Year on the 27th, then squeeze onto the Spring Festival train back home with him for reunion.
But now, how could she go back? With what?
