Chapter 37 - 35: Keeping the Benefits within the Family
"That’s nonsense, who said that?" As soon as Li Si thought about it, she realized it must have been Li Fei who saw Yin Xian and went home to embellish the story.
"Really? Even if it were true, it’s no big deal. Back in the day, it was perfectly normal to get married and have kids at 18 or 19. If you did have someone, there’s no need to hide it—bring them in front of us relatives so we can check them out for you. After all, you’re still young; you might not have a good eye for people!" Li Si thought sarcastically to herself, If I did bring a boyfriend to meet you guys, wouldn’t you just transfer all your attention to your daughter?
Zhang Meihua didn’t respond immediately after Li Si muttered an "Mm-hmm," so she continued, "Fei’er mentioned it after she came back. She said she saw your male companion at the ski resort, and he’s pretty handsome. Looks like he comes from a good family too. If, Li Si, you don’t have any feelings for him, maybe you could introduce him to your sister? Isn’t there an old saying—’don’t let fat water flow into others’ fields’? If Fei’er marries well, as her sister, wouldn’t you benefit from it too?"
Just as expected. Li Si huffed coldly, "Second Aunt, I doubt Li Fei needs me to introduce her to anyone; she’s been chasing after one of our classmates lately. You’d better keep an eye on her! Anyway, I have things to do—I’m hanging up now." Without waiting to hear what Zhang Meihua wanted to say next, Li Si promptly ended the call.
"Si, don’t you think your Second Aunt’s train of thought is a bit... unconventional?" The voice was loud enough that Bai Shasha, sitting nearby, inadvertently understood most of it.
"Who knows. We’re certainly not on the same wavelength, that’s for sure." The two fell silent for a moment. The taxi arrived at Li Si’s house first; she handed the driver 100 yuan, asking him to make sure Bai Shasha got home safely. Bai Shasha stepped out of the cab, laughing at how overbearing Li Si was, and Li Si headed upstairs.
Li Si watched the car drive off before turning to enter her building. The old voice-activated lights in the stairwell weren’t working properly, so she hurriedly climbed the stairs. When she reached the third floor, she suddenly noticed a dark shadow in the pitch black. Her heart nearly stopped in fright, and she instinctively bolted back down.
A voice called out, "Li Si, don’t be scared—it’s me, Yin Xian!"
