Chapter 174: Do You Think He Can Defeat Me?
Keith had seen the desperation in Jason’s eyes when Jason said he needed to go home. He had watched the eighteen-year-old boy show more emotion in that one moment than he had shown in all the other times that Keith had seen him combined, and something in Jason’s eyes made Keith feel like fighting for him.
Maybe it was stupid and maybe he had made the wrong decision, but Keith wanted to believe that he was on the right side this time. Keith wasn’t a fool just because he upheld the law more than anyone else. He knew that there were times when the law needed to be put aside because of how complicated a situation was. And in this situation, Keith’s morality aligned more with Jason than it did with the actual law.
Besides, if Keith had blocked Jason’s path back then, Keith knew that it wouldn’t have been a good thing both for Jason and for the government. It would’ve caused a rift between them that was irreparable and Jason would never trust the Enforcers again. So by taking Jason’s side, Keith had saved the relationship between the both of them. If Keith had to sacrifice his own health to ensure someone as powerful as Jason remained on their side, then Keith would do it a thousand times over. Because he believed in the law more than anyone else. And he knew they needed someone like Jason to believe in the law as well.
Keith said all of this to Agiel in short, clipped sentences and he could see the way Agiel’s eyes slowly narrowed in slight confusion. Agiel thought through everything that Keith said with a small hum before she eventually felt a laugh bubble up from inside her. It was a beautiful and soft thing that absolutely betrayed the sheer monstrosity that Agiel was capable of and Keith couldn’t help but admit that Agiel looked very attractive at that moment! If not for the fact that he had experienced it firsthand, Keith would never believe a woman like this was so powerful!
Agiel spoke in a soft voice.
"So that is what you were fighting for. You didn’t want the Enforcers to get on Jason’s bad side, so you made sure we weren’t seen as the villains in his story. You really believe in him that much?"
Keith said nothing in response; he simply gave a small nod, and Agiel’s smile became bloodthirsty once more as she asked,
"Do you think he can defeat me?"
It was a simple question, and if Keith had heard it a few minutes before they started their fight, then he would have had an immediate answer. Agiel was a beast unlike anything he had ever seen. She had the sheer fighting prowess that rivaled any other superhuman in the world and her power was nothing to scoff at. But the most dangerous thing about her was the way she was able to use her Gift in such a brilliant way.
