Chapter 60: Take It Away
Lilia wondered if her tear-blurred vision was playing tricks on her. Had she really seen that change in Zethan's eyes? The sharp glint that flickered for just a moment—was it real, or was her mind playing tricks on her?
Her heartbeat quickened as heat crept up her neck. The way Zethan's lips rested against her skin made her hyper-aware of his presence.
Before she could dwell on it further, the door opened, revealing the doctor, followed by a woman who appeared to be a cleaner. The woman carried well-organized cleaning equipment, her focus locked on wiping away the traces of blood that had dripped onto the floor.
The doctor's eyes widened slightly as she took in the scene. Lilia's clothes were stained, the deep red contrasting starkly against the fabric. Zethan's shirt bore similar marks, as did the bedsheets beneath him. She inwardly berated herself for not assigning a nurse to stay with Lilia, though she knew why she hadn't.
Zethan had insisted on being alone with her before Lucas arrived, making it very clear that no one was to disturb them unless absolutely necessary.
Steeling herself, the doctor spoke quietly, trying to maintain her professionalism.
"Mr. Zethan, if it's okay with you, could you place her on the bed?"
Zethan shook his head. "No, you can do this here."
The doctor hesitated for a fraction of a second before nodding in understanding. As if on cue, a nurse entered, carrying a tray of fresh bandages and wound treatment supplies. The doctor reached for Lilia's injured hand, but as her fingers brushed against Lilia's skin, a strange sensation crawled up her spine.
An overwhelming, suffocating aura radiated from Zethan.
She prided herself on maintaining composure in all situations. It was her job, after all—to remain calm, to exude confidence no matter the circumstance. And yet, under the weight of Zethan's presence, her control wavered. It wasn't just his aura. It was something else, something far beyond her understanding.
