"Mind your business, witch." The guard snarled at Althea defiantly. "Just because—"
"Ironic of you to tell me that when it was your inability to hold your tongue that started this unsightly argument." Althea snapped at him, stepping to my side.
Caroline stepped back now, glancing at me first before turning her gaze to my aunt.
Althea raised her head, speaking with lingering anger in her voice. "The woman you speak to so harshly— the hybrid, is your Alpha King’s wife. If you have a problem with that, you can take it up with him instead of cutting corners and targeting her to get a reaction."
The young guard let out a scoff, glancing at his comrades like he was waiting for some kind of validation. They give him just that by either chuckling or murmuring to themselves.
"Targeting her? You mean the large target she placed on her back when she slaughtered innocents?" The guard asked.
But when I glanced at Althea, she was unwavering and calm as she responded. "Her’s was a mistake. Yet on that same night, your Luna Queen deliberately led tens of pack soldiers to their deaths in a failed coup against the Alpha King."
The guard faltered, his lips parting but Althea’s voice demanded silence as she continued.
"Your words tonight thread the line of mutiny. Now I can’t give you any punishment, but best believe the Alpha King wouldn’t be merciful if he fishes you out himself."
