Chapter 182: Clark’s Ancestral Lands (1)
Jenna frowned. There were corpses on her side, too. Some were recent, others not so much. But none of them had skin.
She tried to crouch down to see the man who had spoken’s condition, but suddenly, they witnessed something astonishing.
The body disintegrated into blood, and all the blood flowed through the dark rocks that made up the structure until it reached the door, joining the blood that was already there.
This astonishing scene left a pile of bones scattered around the place. There were too many of these bones.
More than 500 corpses.
"Is this a trap?" He frowned and looked once more at the castle built on the rock. Then he looked at the statue, which glowed with blood.
But there were no clues.
Then he looked at the illuminated words above the castle.
Clark.
’Am I to assume that these are the Ancestral Lands?’ he thought.
Now it made sense that it wasn’t mentioned in the books. Everyone who came here would die.
And those who belonged to the Clarks simply couldn’t reveal what they saw here. It must be a secret they take to their graves.
At least that’s what his father told him.
He didn’t think the Clarks had such a mystical background, but suddenly his mind tensed.
He glanced quickly to his side. Jenna was there, looking at the scattered bones.
"Can you move?" he asked suddenly.
She looked at him and nodded. "Yes?"
Then he sighed. For a moment, he felt the fear that she might become one of those corpses, for she had entered a place she shouldn’t have.
Luckily...
’Luckily?’ He frowned and looked down at his feet. A step in front of him separated the main area of the "wall" from this area.
He stepped forward and climbed up to the other side of the wall, where he could see everything better.
"Come," he said, though he didn’t take his eyes off her. He suspected something...
She nodded and started to follow him... or at least she tried to.
But she couldn’t move forward.
’Hm? A barrier?’ she thought, and moved her power inside her. Her power then burst out of her body, but was suddenly rejected with force.
She flew toward the wall behind her and hit it hard.
"Jenna!" Elliot ran to her and helped her up. "Are you okay?"
She nodded and wiped the blood dripping from the corner of her lips.
"There’s a barrier there."
"A barrier?" He looked more closely and looked up.
’Certainly, there seems to be something there. But I can’t see it,’ he thought.
He frowned. No wonder no one was dead inside. No one could get in.
It must be a barrier that prevents anything without Clark blood from entering.
He frowned, but Jenna smiled.
"Hehe, I like challenges. But now I think I can beat it," she said and stood up. Although she was in pain, her boldness made her approach the barrier again under Elliot’s gaze.
"Jenna!" He went to stop her, but she stopped a few millimeters before the barrier and turned to look at him.
"Come on, go in there. This place thinks it’s going to restrict me with a stupid barrier. It has no idea who it’s dealing with!"
Elliot looked at her, a little stunned. He couldn’t understand what she meant for a brief moment, but then he suddenly remembered, and his eyes lit up.
He smiled and didn’t hesitate to cross the barrier again. He stood at a distance and nodded to her.
"I hope it works."
She smiled and blinked. Suddenly, a dark energy burst from her eyes. And the shadows throughout the place became much more visible.
Her eyes turned deep black, and she could see every shadow clearly. Especially...
Elliot’s.
She focused on that shadow and activated one of her current abilities.
"Come a little closer," she said.
Elliot did so.
Then she controlled her shadow to move strangely to a side that should have been impossible, forward.
Considering that the lighting in this place was from the front, this should have been impossible. But nothing her new class couldn’t solve.
Suddenly, both shadows connected, and she began to sink into her own shadow, as if it were some kind of dimensional portal.
Her shadow did not disappear. It remained in the same place, and she suddenly began to appear on the other side.
She emerged from Elliot’s shadow and stood in front of him on the other side of the barrier within seconds.
Both of them were tense, not knowing if it would work. So she moved to one side and then circled Elliot, deactivating her ability.
Suddenly, they both smiled.
"Looks like it’s a success," she said.
He nodded. "That’s good. I was afraid you’d stay in that place. Let’s go." He took her by the hand, and they both began to walk across the extremely large bridge.
They looked under the bridge and frowned.
"How deep do you think it is down there?" she asked.
"It could be as deep as an endless pit, or as deep as 10 meters," he replied.
"10 meters? Do you think it’s an illusion?"
"Well, both are possibilities. We can’t assume it’s an endless pit, as it appears to be."
"You’re right," she smiled.
But neither of them had any intention of testing it. They weren’t idiots.
Although the statue, the castle, and everything else could be seen from the walls, this bridge was larger than it appeared. As they got closer, they realized the statue was much larger than they had imagined.
It was ridiculously big!
’It’s so giant that even giant races fall short of this statue. It must be the largest statue on earth,’ Elliot thought.
When they reached the bronze door, an intense smell of antiquity hit them and overwhelmed them momentarily.
As they got closer, this smell became more and more intense.
They stopped before crossing the door to check for traps and then passed through.
Just then, a powerful aura enveloped them and hit them with the same intense smell of antiquity.
Just then...
The system was deactivated for them.
Strangely, they could feel it had been deactivated unexpectedly and couldn’t be used.
Jenna frowned. Suddenly, she couldn’t move again.
"That thing got me again," she said. "And I can’t use my abilities."
Elliot turned to look at her and examined her body.
He frowned. "I think they blocked your ability by blocking your arteries with magic. But you’re not in mortal danger," he said. Somehow, he could see her body clearly.
She frowned.
"What is this place?" she asked suddenly. "That word ’Clark’ from earlier... Is it something to do with your family?" she asked.
He nodded.
"It’s probably my family’s ancestral land."
"I see."
"Will you wait for me here?"
"I can’t do anything else," she said with a smile. "I can only move my head and eyes a little."
Elliot nodded. "Give me some time, and I’ll find a way to get you out of there. Maybe it’s restrictions because they’re family matters."
She nodded and watched as Elliot began to go deeper inside.
’A family with ancestral lands and special blood... What a strange family. Being a family like that, they should be ruling the continent, but they can barely rule a small town like this.’
She couldn’t understand it.
She could only say: There’s something strange about that family.
Elliot saw different writings on the walls. He could understand them all, even though many were written in an unknown language.
This place was a castle in its own right, but it was peculiar in many ways.
The letters on the walls, ancient hieroglyphics, languages of the past, weapons, statues, and many strange but ancient things were everywhere.
He opened one of the rooms and realized that they were normal bedrooms. Others seemed to be kitchens, dining rooms, etc.
It was a normal house, but too big and with too many things.
Each place was not tidy. There were plates, spoons, and other things scattered around.
"It looks like they were using them and then just threw them on the floor."
That didn’t make sense, but they turned to dust when he tried to touch the cutlery and other things scattered around the rooms.
The same thing happened with various weapons and armor, even with statues.
’They are so old that time has already taken its toll on them,’ he thought.
But there was something peculiar about this castle.
It only had one hallway: the one he was walking through.
After walking for a while, he began to climb some stairs at the end of that enormous hallway.
The darkness might have made it difficult for him to see, but he could see clearly in this place and could assure that there was a massive amount of attribute energy.
Since arriving here, his ability has been absorbing attribute energy like an endless fund, and it hasn’t stopped. There was so much that it simply never ended.
