Chapter 705 - 705: Outmatched
Beatrice's face changed. Rovan's eyes widened.
Then figures appeared.
One after another, several masked people stepped out from different directions, silently surrounding them.
Their auras were restrained, but every single one of them was a high-level cultivator.
The kids panicked at once.
"Run!"
They turned and tried to flee in different directions.
One of the masked men stepped forward and stomped his foot.
BOOM!!
The ground trembled.
A wave of qi spread out in all directions.
The children cried out as their bodies were slammed down to the ground one after another.
Some hit the pavement face first. Others rolled across the cracked road.
Then all of them went still.
Beatrice's face turned pale.
"Zack! Anne! Everyone!"
Her voice shook as she looked at the fallen kids.
Rovan's throat went dry. He stared at the masked figures around them, his face turning ugly.
He did not know whether he was the target or if it was Beatrice, but it was clear they had come to kill.
Beatrice's hand flashed.
A long staff appeared from her storage ring.
The pale wood body was smooth, with silver lines carved along the surface.
She stepped forward at once, putting herself between the fallen children and the masked men.
"Who are you?" Beatrice shouted. "What do you want?"
No one answered.
Rovan cursed and quickly moved behind her.
His hands tightened into fists as he looked around, trying to find way to escape.
A masked man suddenly blurred.
Beatrice's eyes widened. It's too fast.
She swung her staff sideways.
CLANG!!
Sparks burst in front of her face.
A curved blade had appeared out of nowhere, smashing into the shaft hard enough to numb both her arms.
Before she could even breathe, another figure rushed in from the side.
Beatrice twisted her staff and slammed the lower end into the ground.
A pale formation ring burst open.
BZZZT!!
A wall of light rose beside her.
The second attacker's dagger struck the barrier and skidded off, sending cracks through the glowing surface.
Rovan saw the opening and make his move.
Swossh!!!
He threw a fist at the man's ribs with all his strength.
The masked man did not even look at him.
His elbow snapped back.
BAM!!
Rovan folded in half and staggered back, clutching his stomach.
His face twisted as he nearly dropped to his knees.
The attacker than come toward Rovan targeting his neck.
Beatrice gritted her teeth and shoved the blade away with both hands.
She swung the staff upward, the gem at the top flashing bright.
A sharp burst of qi shot out like a crescent.
The masked man tilted his head and let it pass by a finger's width.
The attack ripped through the wall behind him instead, leaving a deep cut across the apartment's metal plating.
Beatrice's heart sank.
A third figure moved.
This one came from above.
Beatrice felt it too late and raised her staff over her head.
BOOM!!
A heavy kick crashed down on the shaft.
The impact drove her feet into the ground.
Cracks spread under her shoes.
Pain shot through her shoulders.
Rovan finally dragged in a breath and looked up just in time to see Beatrice being pressed down from above.
He roared and charged again.
This time he did not think.
He just threw himself forward like a madman and slammed into the attacker's side.
The masked man lost balance for a moment.
Seeing the opportunity Beatrice twisted her body and swept her staff low.
WHAM!!
The blow smashed into the man's ankle and forced him back.
Rovan grinned in relief for exactly half a second.
Then another masked figure appeared in front of him.
A palm struck his chest.
THUD!!
Rovan flew backward like a rag doll.
He crashed through one of the cheap benches, splinters exploding around him.
Blood rose in his throat.
He coughed hard and rolled to his side just in time to avoid a knife stabbing into the ground where his neck had been.
His eyes went wide.
He grabbed a broken bench leg from the ground and swung it wildly.
CRACK!!
The wood shattered against the attacker's forearm.
The masked man's other hand came down like a hammer.
Rovan raised both arms.
BAM!!
Pain exploded through his bones.
His body dropped to one knee.
Not far away, Beatrice spun her staff again.
Silver lines along the weapon lit up one after another.
She thrust the tip forward.
Three rings of light shot out in a line, each one spinning faster than the last.
The first attacker cut through the first ring.
The second ring exploded against his blade and slowed him for a breath.
The third ring slammed into his chest and forced him back three steps.
Beatrice did not stop there.
She rushed forward, both hands gripping the staff tight, and struck at his head, throat, then knee in one flowing chain.
The masked man blocked the first blow.
Slipped around the second.
Caught the third against his shin guard.
Then his hand shot out and grabbed the shaft.
Beatrice tried to pull back, but he was stronger.
His other palm came toward her face.
She released one hand from the staff and formed a seal.
A tiny formation appeared between them.
FLASH!!
A burst of white light exploded in his eyes.
The masked man let go and stepped back.
Beatrice stumbled away, breathing hard.
Her chest rose and fell quickly. Sweat had already formed on her forehead.
Around them, the other masked men still had not moved.
They just stood there, watching.
That sight made Rovan's skin crawl.
He forced himself up, one hand clutching his ribs.
Every breath hurt.
His arms were shaking.
But when he saw one masked man stepping toward an unconscious girl on the ground, something in his head snapped.
"Don't touch her!"
Rovan dashed forward.
He doesn't know the reason why, normally he will ignore such thing.
But the thought of the girl head got crushed for no reason, make him really angry.
