Chapter 1423: Brother and Sister
Lory stared at her brother’s face for a long, silent moment. So much time had passed, years slipping away like grains of sand, as they were separated by time and space. And yet, despite everything, Lucas’s appearance hadn’t changed much.
Blessed with powerful, gifted abilities, their kind could maintain their youthful looks far longer than most. To the world, they still looked as if they were in their mid-twenties. But inside... Lory felt centuries old. Weary. Tired. And yet—somehow, still hopeful.
She couldn’t begin to imagine what Lucas had endured during all those years apart. The crushing loneliness he must have felt. The guilt he likely carried, as heavy and relentless as her own... perhaps even more.
Lory considered herself fortunate. She had found her soulmate, Zhao Li Xin. His presence made her burdens lighter, her struggles more bearable. But Lucas... Lucas was still alone.
After all these years, he had yet to find his mate. The thought gnawed at her heart. What if his soulmate was in another world, as hers had been? What if Lucas was destined to wait endlessly, never knowing the warmth and quiet strength a true partner could bring?
She knew Fargo, Fred, Jay, and Clift would always stand faithfully by his side. But some things... some pains and fears could only ever be shared with the one person who was your other half.
Without that, no matter how surrounded you were, there would always be a hollow ache—an emptiness only love could fill.
Lory held his palm tightly and sighed, "What should I do with you, Luc?" She rested her head on the bed while momentarily closing her eyes. She actually still feels a bit tired, but she cannot sleep, not when she still worries about her brothers.
Suddenly, she felt a tug on her grip. Lory was startled for a second, then immediately raised her head. Lucas’s brows knitted tightly, his eyelids moved as if struggling to open his eyes. Lory immediately sat on the bed and examined Luc’s face.
"Luc...luc, wake up, come on, wake up," she urged him softly.
After what felt like an eternity, Luc finally able to open his eyelids, though his vision was hazy, his body heavy and aching as though he’d been running for days without rest.
