The Vastness of Magical Destiny

Chapter 1002: Volume 32: Dark Clouds Enshroud, - 20: The Tree Wishes to Stay Still but The Wind Will Not Cease

Watching Katya’s graceful figure leave, Komer couldn’t help but run his hand through his hair. What a conundrum, he thought. Katya appeared so desolate and forlorn, yet Komer knew that this woman was no less formidable than Renta, whose ambitions were burning bright, even though she was so vulnerable now.

Both women shared the blood of the Romanov family and both possessed an indomitable spirit. The difference was that Renta chose to seize her opportunities through cunning, while Katya opted for direct confrontation. It seemed that Renta had succeeded where Katya had fallen, but was that really the case? Komer asked himself.

Shaking his head instinctively, Komer did not know how to judge these half-sisters. Perhaps it was a resilience characteristic of the women of the Romanov family.

Now was not the time to consider where Katya would go from here. She could only seek temporary refuge in this place. Only by enduring could she achieve her goals. Komer understood the scorching sensation of the flame burning within, having experienced such torment himself. It was part of the journey towards maturity.

The wrap-up of the conflict in Cartin also signaled that there was no longer any need to push the war further in the entire region, including Livonia and the Black Forest. Of course, this was only temporary, just a moment to catch one’s breath. The Northern Alliance needed it, and so did he.

The word ’negotiations’ was repulsive to Komer. He could never accept it internally; it was nothing more than a fig leaf for the Atticans. What they needed now was a way to withdraw with dignity, and they also had to face the disastrous event of having so many knights taken prisoner. If this were not dealt with properly, even divine intervention reversing their fortunes would be futile.

Komer held many cards in his hand, and his trump card was these captive knights.

As for the Cretans, Komer had long dismissed them as inconsequential. An army that could not even defeat his own smaller detachments and yet dreamt of capturing the Black Forest and Livonia was simply biting off more than they could chew. Komer could only describe them as a disorganized alliance, a rabble that had lost its purpose and direction after the beastmen invaded Nicosia and occupied Jazair, even entertaining the thought of getting a share of Nicosia. Komer found it utterly laughable.

Komer did not underestimate the Atticans or the Cretans. In fact, purely in terms of military strength, he was no match for them. But the self-serving agenda of these two powers had provided him with an excellent opportunity. Now that his blunt strike had hit this alliance, Komer did not know if a complete collapse awaited these fellows.
