Chapter 962: Volume 31: A Hand Trying to Cover the Sky, - 6: Murderous Aura
Like a gust of wind that swept away the gloom cloaking the veil, a flicker of joy swept across Eve’s doubting face, but it was merely for a moment before it drowned in the faint melancholy that lay upon her features.
"Komer, what do you mean by this?"
"It means nothing specific. I just hope that you could go out more, see more. I feel more at ease with Grace accompanying you. Flanders is engulfed in war, and things may not go as planned. If you’re interested, perhaps a trip to the Southern Mediterranean would be enlightening. I think Xifnos Island will be quite an eye-opener for you both."
Komer did not want to spell it out; the girl’s pride needed safeguarding, although such needless pride often posed a significant barrier between two people who wished to grow closer. However, forcefully removing such barriers could only lead to bigger problems. Komer did not want to rush things and achieve the opposite result.
Eve felt somewhat disappointed. The other’s concealed hints did not fully satisfy her. The deep desires within her heart and her outward restraint placed her in a state of inexplicable contradiction. She did not wish to avoid anyone, but she also had to admit that with Komer’s current status, her expectations were improbable, yet Komer’s stance had already been made quite clear.
Eve nodded silently, saying no more. Pushing too hard was not her style, and she knew Komer was having a difficult time too. As Komer climbed higher positions, the words he spoke and the actions he took could no longer solely represent his own intentions. More often than not, he had to consider the group he represented, and sometimes, for the benefit of the majority, he had to forsake some things, even if they seemed immoral or unacceptable from certain perspectives.
"Eve, I just want to say one thing. In my eyes, both you and Grace are impeccable and irreplaceable. You need not worry about other things or people. Eve is Eve, not someone else. But many a time, I cannot act entirely according to my own will. I cannot consider only myself. I hope you can understand this. You just need to know one thing—you do not need to yield or be wary of anyone."
Komer’s warm gaze slowly seeped into Eve’s heart, quietly melting her cold heart bit by bit.
