The Vastness of Magical Destiny

Chapter 937: Volume 30: The Emergence of the Empire, - 8: Exposed

"Your words are too harsh," Komer replied, his face devoid of indignation, a faint smile still present. "The reason I invited both of you here has nothing to do with personal feelings. I would not lie in the presence of the Mortals. With the current situation in Nicosia so chaotic, as a part of Nicosia, I feel that both myself and you two have a duty to step forward to clarify the situation and to contribute towards a better tomorrow for Nicosia."

Hearing the other party’s shameless remarks, Mathew felt a sense of frustration. This man had the gall to speak as if he were a great person concerned for all, his shamelessness was unprecedented. He did not even feel ashamed of his unprincipled and aggressive actions. Mathew thought that it takes someone quite unique to compare. But victors write history, and since he had succeeded, such words could no longer be considered an overstepping of bounds.

Tez watched with a smile as his old friend sparred verbally with Komer. He had long since learned of Komer’s cunning and astuteness. Mathew would never gain the upper hand in a battle of wits against him. However, their visit that day was not intended for a verbal duel; they had come with different intentions in mind.

Nicosia had been in decline for far too long. Since the Romanov family had lost the qualification to revitalize Nicosia, Tez and Mathew were not narrow-minded men. If there truly was a suitable candidate, they would not hesitate to offer support, provided this person aligned with their ideas. Though Komer appeared excellent in many ways, it was precisely because his unexpected and exceptional approach always caught people off guard that Tez and Mathew harbored doubts about him. Upon receiving Komer’s invitation, they did not hesitate to accept. They needed time and opportunity to closely observe what kind of man he truly was, whether he was an arrogant fool with great ambition but little talent, or a practical, far-sighted person destined for success. This was the purpose of Tez and Mathew’s visit.

"Really? It seems that Lord Komer harbors aspirations of great concern for state affairs. However, I fail to understand how the chaos of today is not the result of Lord Komer’s own making. Why then does Lord Komer put on the pretense of pitying the common people?" Now that all pretenses had been dropped, Mathew had no reservations, his words directly addressing the topics Komer could not avoid. "Has the Romanov family truly become so depraved that it falls to Lord Komer to bury them?"

Komer found it rather interesting that General Mathew, known for his military talent, also possessed such a gift for speech and did not shy away from embarrassing topics, practically accusing him to his face of being a national traitor. Arguing with such a person was truly inspiring for Komer’s own thoughts; surrounded by flattery all day long, his thinking had almost come to a standstill.
