Chapter 883: Volume 27: The Sudden Gust - 22: As You Wish
Watching Renta’s graceful figure disappearing through the doorway, Komer’s smirk lingered on his lips, unabated. Not fellow travelers, not entering the same house—this bitch truly had the talent for acting. Heartless as a harlot, faithless as an actor; this woman seemed to embody both. Only power and profit could bind her.
After sending Renta off to rest, Komer sent someone to summon Rebry and Fran. The pace was quickening, many events were unfolding faster than he had anticipated.
Rebry and Fran listened quietly as Komer recounted Renta’s purpose. The bait Komer threw out didn’t matter much to them—whether it was Poznan or Silesia, those were concerns for the future. What needed to be determined now was where to strike first and how to respond to the possibility of the other side forming an alliance, especially the threat from the Galleian people.
"Nissa & #8226; Ferdinand trusts our promises just like that?" Fran clearly had doubts about the Ferdinand Family switching sides. In his view, anyone with a functioning brain wouldn’t trust the sincerity of Homer; there were too many examples of abandonment after use.
"Hmph, not everyone dares to bargain with the tiger for its skin, but perhaps Nissa thinks himself one of the best," Komer sneered. "He thinks he can rest easy with guarantees from both the Church of Light and Beastmen. I’ll show him traitors often end up as allies."
"The Beastmen don’t seem likely to make a move on Silesia just yet, right? Their rule in the northern part of the kingdom is not firm, and their policy of assimilation is only just beginning to show some results. That’s the main reason why they’re coexisting peacefully with Silesia." Fran spoke pragmatically and didn’t agree with Komer’s view. He couldn’t vouch for the Church of Light, but he was clear about the situation with the Beastmen, "Stabbing Silesia in the back at this time could yield immediate benefits, but it’s disadvantageous for their long-term plans. There are wise men among the Beastmen, and they should see this. That’s also why Nissa dares to shake hands with us."
"Hmm, Fran, what you’re saying would be true under normal circumstances, but some specific scenarios may differ. But now isn’t the time to consider this; you’ll understand the intricacies in the future," Komer said with a faint smile. "The Beastmen won’t touch them for now, but in the future, who can say?"
Fran said no more; he well understood Komer’s tactics. The Lord was full of secrets that would remain hidden until necessary. His job was to prepare the specific tactics and operations.
"The turmoil within the Church of Light continues, with the Salvation Society performing remarkably well. Surprisingly, Welch has built a firm foundation for the society. Without Pope Julius’s intervention, I believe this chaos will last quite a while, which is our opportunity, isn’t it?" Komer asked Rebry with a smile.
"Welch’s cunning depth exceeded my expectations. I still find it hard to imagine that Welch & #8226; Medoff could be the puppeteer behind the Salvation Society. That Clark & #8226; Dos is also a leading figure among the younger generation in the Church of Light. Neither the Pericles Church line of Frenster nor St. Vasily Church line of Vazinsky could find many who match him. Clark is a talent who excels in both magic and martial prowess, and I once thought he could be the next Caesar—it’s just that I don’t know how he’s performed in these past years."
Rebry spoke wistfully. The Church of Light had an abundance of talent, with many capable people under Pope Julius. Though they had decayed spiritually, it didn’t significantly impact their strength—at least they still maintained their dominant status.
