Chapter 746: Volume 22: Revival and Rise - 6: The Deceptive Appearance of a Dragon
"The world will shake for you?!" Komer looked at them with a mix of laughter and disbelief, feeling that their statement was a huge joke. Why do members of the Dragon Clan always seem so arrogantly self-important? They seemed to have entirely forgotten that the world no longer was what it once had been. Though individual strength might be formidable, when facing the organized, stratified, and intelligent collective power of society, any individual power becomes negligible. Faced with humanity’s ever-evolving manufacturing and innovation capabilities, along with the continual progress in magic, martial arts, and technology, the combined strength of mortals, dwarves, beastmen, and barbarians—if focusing solely on the Dragon Clan—had increased manifold. And with the pathetic reproductive abilities of the Dragon Clan, they were nothing more than targets for human adventurers’ secretive attacks.
It seemed that Komer’s pitiful and disdainful gaze struck a nerve with Shatima, who placed her hands on her hips, losing the grace of a dignified lady, "Komer, why do you look at me with such a gaze? Am I wrong? You might be considered one of the best among your mortals, but when it comes to one-on-one combat, am I not your opponent? And people like Solonberg and Vladimir Koff, who are considered the powerhouses of your human world, they’re one in a million, but they stand no chance when I am fully restored! And I’m just an ordinary member within our Ice Dragon Clan, which isn’t even the strongest among the dragon races. With my strength, when up against your human soldiers, a few hundred, maybe even a thousand wouldn’t be enough! In front of us, humans are like ants, not worth mentioning at all!"
"Shatima, you’re not wrong. Neither I nor Solonberg could stand against you in a one-on-one fight, but why did you end up captured by me? You couldn’t even handle those Jellyfish People, has the Dragon Clan really fallen so low?" Komer laughed casually, "But we humans have always been social creatures. Division of labor and organized social life are the fundamental characteristics of Mortal Society. How can you discuss these issues while disregarding such objective factors? Besides, the strength of a race or nation isn’t solely represented in the form of war—there are many other aspects, such as the development of culture, economy, and art. However, I’ve neither heard of nor seen any of these reflected among the Dragon Clan. Even in the form of war, I don’t think the Dragon Clan stands any chance against humanity’s organized art of warfare. Of course, you can’t expect every battlefield conflict to be decided by the rigid form of knightly duels, can you?"
Komer’s words rapidly eroded the already shaky confidence of Shatima, who stared at him, dumbfounded, before finally looking down dejectedly, her hands dropping listlessly from her hips. Evidently, Shatima’s mood hadn’t fully calmed down yet.
"Komer, you truly are a demon! Can’t you speak a little more tactfully? Don’t you always tell me that in your human society, you value manners and keeping a lady in good spirits? Why do you always ruin my good mood?!" Shatima glared at Komer, her voice full of spite.
"Oh, Shatima, keeping a lady in good spirits is indeed important, but uttering deceitful flattery would be both unkind and against my conscience. I wouldn’t want to leave the impression of being a hypocritical and insincere little man in Shatima’s mind," Komer shrugged and said, "Actually, there’s no need for you to cling so stubbornly to the status of your Dragon Clan. Every species living in this world is part of the Creator God’s plan—survival of the fittest is the natural order. There is nothing wrong with your clan living in such a way. Of course, it’s every individual’s freedom to strive and change themselves for their ideals and pursuits. Shatima, you can choose your own traditional way of life, or you can choose to change yourself—that’s your right. However, personally, I believe it’s better to strive to change one’s destiny than to live a mediocre life; that makes life far more interesting and exciting."
"To struggle and compete for various interests, just like you mortals?" Shatima’s mouth twitched into a wry smile.
"Heh heh, Shatima, it’s endless fun to combat the heavens, and just as enjoyable to combat with mortals. Only you yourself can know the flavor of such experiences," Komer also laughed, "Your Dragon Clan’s life is too bland. Since you’ve taken on a mortal form, then follow me into the intricate and unpredictable struggles of human society and savor the pleasure within."
