The Vastness of Magical Destiny

Chapter 673: Volume Nineteen: Lost Horizon - Three: Inescapable Doom

The fruitless search of Bruce Fortress did not surprise Caru and Boritz; the young lord in question was just as sensitive in these matters as the craftiest of veterans. He wouldn’t allow anyone to gain leverage over him concerning this outpost at the frontier between Caucasus and Leon, and Caru and Boritz were well prepared for that eventuality.

The gathering of adventurer teams here did, however, take them aback. It was not until they understood the so-called rumors of the Goddess of Nature’s treasure that they realized what was going on. Although they didn’t grasp the subtleties of the situation, intuition told Caru that this somewhat absurd event of treasure surely had something to do with the young lord. After all, the Essence God Ring truly did exist in the hands of Princess Galle Vero, and Mr. Mundell, the head mage of the Galle Mage Group, had confirmed it. Moreover, the young lord possessed the Tianmiao God Ring, a legendary treasure of water-based magic. Despite these undeniable proofs affirming the existence of the Goddess’s treasure, Caru could not fathom how such news had leaked, nor to what end. He did not think of the young lord as someone simple-minded or unguarded in speech; his every move was cloaked with ill intent.

Nevertheless, this problem was unrelated to their own mission to Caucasus. No matter what trickery the young lord had up his sleeve, as long as they could corner him in Damarlinsk Castle, Caru believed everything would come to light. The closer they got to Damarlinsk Castle, the stronger his premonition became—stronger even than when he had first escaped from there—convinced that the young lord had many secrets that, once revealed, would shock everyone.

The swarm of adventurer teams caught Komer and Maha Gummi off guard, never having anticipated that the Goddess of Nature’s treasure would draw so many adventurers. Among them were several renowned elite teams from the Continent; two had even ventured into the boundless lands, and though they hadn’t penetrated far, the mere attempt granted them a place of honor in the Adventurers’ Guild.

Komer welcomed these formidable teams with great enthusiasm and sincerity. After all, their arrival could incite an adventuring frenzy throughout Caucasus and Leon, significantly advancing the adventure business in both regions. The various influences brought by these people was not to be underestimated.

Many adventurers, weary from their careers, would often seek different employment and employers. If Komer could provide a satisfactory environment for these adventurer teams, he believed many would consider a change in profession after having their fill of the frenzy over the Goddess’s treasure. Whether in the military or the mage forces, he was in desperate need of talent, and the warriors and mages from these teams could be the best recruits for his forces.

From the very beginning, Komer had no intention of letting these futile folks leave at will. With some careful planning, recruiting some experts and strong individuals from these adventurer teams was not impossible, especially given the flourishing conditions in Caucasus and Leon. Many of those adventurers who felt they had no prospects in their careers wouldn’t be able to resist such temptations.

The relaxed racial environment in Caucasus and Leon also left a deep impression on those teams. Beastmen and Barbarians could live and settle freely on this land, and Half-beastmen could even become personal guards of the Lord, which was an honor unimaginable in any mortal territory. Even Beastmen and Barbarians enjoyed citizen rights; hence, it was no question for other races. Many adventurers from the South, including Dwarves, Gnomes, Elves, and Giants, were not uncommon among these teams, and the harmonious climate in Caucasus resonated with them. Some of the older adventurers were already inquiring about instructor positions in the Caucasus self-defense forces, while Elf priests and Dwarf craftsmen were also very interested in acquiring full citizen rights in this land.
