Chapter 628: Volume 16: Mists and Illusions, - 21: Another Ingenious Move
"Sir, Bruce Fortress is crucial to both Homer and us, and I think no one would overlook this, especially in the current situation. I’m afraid it would be too difficult to seize Bruce Fortress, with more than ten thousand regular troops stationed within. Our strength is far inferior; we have no chance at all," Fran shook his head, signaling that it was unlikely. Facing off against over ten thousand Homer regular troops, especially when they were firmly entrenched in the city, was unimaginable for an emerging self-defense army of three thousand.
"Hmm, Fran, rest assured, I have not lost my mind to the point of wanting to forcibly storm Bruce Fortress. A conventional battle is definitely not realistic, but I have been thinking of trying other methods," Komer’s mouth curled into a sinister smile.
Fran also knew that his lord was not merely a mage. The deeper one delved into contact with him, the more one thought they understood him, the more hidden and mysterious things would be revealed about him. The arrival of the mages Rebry, Mihailovich, and Newman; the appearances of the Dark Knights Solonberg and Vladimir Koff; and the sudden addition of some inexplicable Mercenary Corps—all made Fran wonder where these people came from and why they were here. How had the bizarre mage and knight popped up, along with a new group of mages shrouded in sinister darkness? The odd characters kept emerging around Komer, yet he seemed to manage them with ease, commanding them around effortlessly.
Listening to Komer’s idea, the mage Xerob, who only showed his eyes, frowned slightly. The Dark Lord seemed to revel in the life of a secular lord, and while the continual expansion of power and territory was beneficial for the Great Mysterium Sect’s future extension of influence to the north, the Dark Lord’s zeal seemed to exceed his interest in the Dark Lineage. Xerob even suspected that the Dark Lord had no interest in inheriting the Dark Lineage at all. He had summoned them purely to use the Sect’s power as a foundation for accumulating secular power for himself.
Ambition was a good thing; without it, the Dark Lineage would lack the motivation to develop. However, if one’s ambition excessively focused on secular power, that was a bit worrying. The life goal of the Great Mysterium Sect was to broaden the Dark Lineage. This Dark Lord had long shown his reluctance to take over the Dark Lineage, and although there were mages skilled in the arts of the Dark Lineage by his side, these mages did not seem to stem from the authentic Dark Holy Church lineage; they were more like those from dark homicide and Undead Magic lineages.
"Dark Lord, I understand your intention to use the forces of the Undead to launch an attack on the Homer Soldiers inside Bruce Fortress, forcing them to retreat from the fortress. However, the Undead is only a part of the Dark Holy Church magics. This time, there are only two Undead Mages that followed me. Handling such large-scale control of the Undead might be a bit too demanding," Xerob carefully responded. He was reluctant to participate in the slaughter of these common soldiers, who were powerless to resist, but he could not refuse Komer’s request and used objective conditions as an excuse instead.
"No matter, I have an Undead Grand Mage here who will take the lead. With the assistance of your mages, that should be enough. If necessary, I can also make a move," Komer smiled, "Mr. Xerob, please come in."
A sinister aura swept into the tent as it opened, dense and pure—so much so that Xerob, who was already a bit displeased, suddenly felt his hair stand on end from excitement. It had been a long time since he had felt such a pure dark aura. Komer’s deliberate concealment made it impossible for Xerob to sense any dark aura on him, but the aura brought by the person who had just entered was even purer than his own, causing Xerob both amazement and joy. Could it be that the emperor was resurrected?
