The Vastness of Magical Destiny

Chapter 623: Volume 16: Mists and Illusions, - 16: The Demon’s Smile

Clarence simply couldn’t hold out any longer, the Blue Flood Dragons were too crazed, and the Gravity Spell seemed to have lost its effect on these creatures. Thunder Magic, too, was greatly restricted by the adult Blue Flood Dragons’ protective maneuvers, and with their guard, the juvenile Blue Flood Dragons were exceptionally active. It was in this way that Dreyba was torn to pieces alive. Gilbano was hit in the chest by these damned magical beasts and lay motionless in the lake water; his chances of survival seemed slim.

Under such circumstances, it was truly too difficult to keep oneself going; now, the only option was to go their separate ways in search of survival. It wasn’t that one didn’t want to take responsibility, but at this rate, when the magic power was exhausted, it was feared that none would be able to escape the Demonic claws of the Blue Flood Dragons, set on tearing them to pieces.

In the final moments, Clarence decided to make one last effort for his comrades to create an opportunity for escape; success or failure would be a matter of luck. Muttering spells and coordinating with the Yellow Stone Wand in hand, he whirled around, dodging a ferocious strike from a Blue Flood Dragon. Suddenly, three enormous Mud Giant Demons emerged from the muddy ground, interposing themselves between the Blue Flood Dragons and the magicians.

"Get out of here!" Clarence’s massive body suddenly sank downward, and the already soft, damp ground opened up abruptly like a gaping hole. As Clarence’s body quickly disappeared below, the mud closed back up over him. This Earth Escape Technique was the most fundamental survival method for an Earth-based magician, especially on wet ground, which made for the best way to escape. This was the main reason Clarence had dared to hold out for so long without fear.

Dumbfounded by the Mud Giant Demons conjured by Clarence’s magic, the Blue Flood Dragons, clearly less intelligent than humans, faced the sudden appearance of these bizarre creatures. As the Mud Giant Demons lunged at them with bared fangs and claws, the dragons instinctively knew that these new arrivals were not here to help. Their tails abruptly erect, the dragons lashed out fiercely, toppling one Mud Giant Demon, which exploded into dirt and debris. Some parts, where the magic had not yet dissipated, still writhed on the ground, drawing the curiosity of the juvenile Blue Flood Dragons.

When Clarence created his Mud Giant Demons, all magicians knew it was time to seize the chance to escape. If they didn’t leave now, they might never have another chance. Sheferley slightly contracted his body, and the staff in his hand transformed into a huge magic power wood column. With a shake of the column, numerous dark green tendrils sprang forth from tiny holes, covering the entire column in an instant. The tendrils stretched into the surrounding space like living creatures, quickly forming a barrier of vines. At that moment, Sheferley cast a modest Wind Travel Technique. Staffs could be remade or bought, but one had only a single life to live. If not now, when would be the right time?

The Blue Flood Dragons immediately noticed Sheferley’s attempt to escape and roared, soaring into the air. However, the vines on the wooden column spread out rapidly, ensnaring the dragons within a tight net. The enraged Blue Flood Dragons struggled with all their might, but the vines, thick as fingers, refused to yield, binding ever tighter around the dragons. If Solonberg hadn’t seen Sheferley escaping without a backward glance, he might have doubted whether the Blue Flood Dragons could ever break free.

However, the Blue Flood Dragons quickly proved their strength. When the dragons curled their bodies to the smallest size and then explosively stretched out, the strained vines snapped. Now free, the dragons shot into the air, but by then, Sheferley had gained enough time to vanish along the shores of Ice Lake, infuriating the dragons even more.

Compared to Clarence’s and Sheferley’s successful escapes, Burqin and Deravade might not have been so lucky. Light attack magic wasn’t very effective against Blue Flood Dragons. Aside from one or two types of High-level Light Magic which could inflict damage on adult Blue Flood Dragons, common spells like Holy Light Bath were almost ineffective.
