The Vastness of Magical Destiny

Chapter 314: Volume 5: Lord’s Path - 4: Challenge_3

Palermo’s words seemed to hide many incomprehensible ambiguities, but he did not intend to explain anything. Some things wouldn’t necessarily gain other’s agreement when exposed; instead, it was this kind of vague and obscure insinuation that allowed people to sense the intent they most identified with.

The coldness in his light gray eyes flickered like a cold wave, and Komer nodded heavily, speaking no further. He was a merchant with an exceptionally keen sense of smell, a hybrid of a political and business speculator. Long-term business dealings and an intimate knowledge of the kingdom’s political scene had endowed him with a shrewdness and an ability to read the world far superior to that of ordinary people. Perhaps Katya had only slightly hinted at something, but that might be enough to let this man follow the trail and discover many useful things.

Gutenberg was undoubtedly a city with a style entirely different from that of Cyprus. Its tall, robust City Walls clearly had a much stronger defense capability than those of Cyprus. Canals encircled the city, even providing a free Moat for the city. Of course, the Moat was merely a small tributary dug along the City Wall, which brought the canal water, but it gave Gutenberg an added measure of security.

Unlike the twisty and winding Streets of Cyprus, Gutenberg was a city designed completely in the image of the Royal City, Jazair. Its chessboard-like layout divided the entire city with avenues paved with Stone Slabs, perfectly straight and square, with each square representing a neighborhood. The Lord’s Mansion of Duke Zellin was located right in the center of the chessboard, occupying a whole neighborhood on its own, which spoke volumes of the grandeur and majesty of the mansion.

Anger surged in his heart, but on the surface, he had to feign a nonchalant demeanor. The silver-haired old man’s face showed more anger as he glanced sideways at the country bumpkin who appeared oblivious. The older man’s suspicions grew—was this guy truly uninvolved with this matter? How could all these people have suddenly become aware of this news?

"Your Grace, what exactly is the commotion about outside? I heard the Farmers and merchants protesting against the Refugees moving into the Galle Plain. Could there be some misunderstanding? We’re just passing through and not settling here, aren’t we? But it seems like the locals here have a bit too strong of a xenophobic sentiment. I always thought the Galle Region was the model for all Lords in the kingdom to learn from, but to my surprise, such an incident has occurred. We’re just passing through, and yet we are treated this way. No wonder Your Grace firmly rejected the kingdom’s proposal last time; so this was the reason."

Sitting in the parlor, Komer unreservedly stimulated the nerves of the silver-haired old man opposite him. As the master of the Galle Region, he had never encountered such a situation. How did these Farmers and vendors come to know that he wanted to accept a group of Refugees? The matter was still in the discussion phase, yet it had already caused such uproar and commotion—it was clear that someone had incited these simple-minded fools to step forward, but who could it be?
