Chapter 260: Humanity’s Traitors (2)
It was Thalia who woke up first after two days in a coma. She visited Rise and met Kamille. The two remained in silence, without asking about anything.
Thalia could read the room. Kamille obviously did not have the mood to reminisce with her. Even with his seemingly calm composure, the dangerous aura held within could not be mistaken.
Even for Thalia, it was harder for her to breathe beside such Kamille, and so she consciously took her distance.
Only a day later, after Thalia woke up, Rise finally opened his eyes. It was only a four-day coma, but for them... It was more than that.
Just as Kamile wished, he was the first and only person Rise saw as he woke up. Kamille’s dangerous crimson pupils were devoid of their usual brutality, and instead an unusual yearning and warmth lingered in his eyes.
Their gazes met in a long while. Their eyes held their emotions, and their mouths were unable to voice out them as a result.
Kamille held Rise in his arms as he breathed a long sigh of relief. Only then could he finally and truly relax his body and mind.
Before Kamille greeted Rise, the latter had managed to whisper first. It was faint, still hoarse from his sleep.
"I’m sorry," Rise breathed his scent. "I made you worry."
Kamille wanted to say something that he did not need to apologize. Yet, he could not.
He could only speak in a gentle yet stern tone. "Hm, don’t do that again."
It was actually true. Rise had made him feel more than just worried. Rise also knew his fault, and Kamille acknowledging his apology made him more at ease.
The two had a lot to say to each other. Rise wanted to ask a lot of things about what happened after he left and how Kamille managed to find them, but he just woke up.
Even though there were nourishments in his days of coma, nothing beats real food. Rise was already hungry, and there were also other people who wanted to see him.
He met his father, who had already taken Riri as soon as they were informed that Rise woke up. Thalia was also there, catching up with him.
This time, Kamille chose to silently stay just beside him, letting others interact with him. Rise had sensed that Kamille had bottled up his emotions, and it was already a surprise that he managed to rein it all in.
When it would erupt, that was obvious to this point.
"Aww, don’t cry... I’m sorry for making Riri worry." Rise wiped the crying Riri, who tightly held his clothes, afraid he would leave again.
Riri sniffed and nodded, but tears continued to stream down his eyes. He looked so aggrieved but also so cute. Of course, Rise would not tease him at this time but coax him instead.
The child, who also could not sleep well when Rise was gone, finally slept peacefully in his arms. Rise talked with his father, mostly just about anything, and nothing was substantial.
Niftan seemed not to want to talk about the outside matters for now since he had just woken up. Rise was not delicate enough to be worried about that, but he took his good intentions and so did not ask him.
Thalia and Niftan, with Riri in his arms, bade farewell after an hour. The two still wanted to stay, but a presence could not be ignored any longer.
Rise was also helpless about this, and truthfully, he also eagerly wanted to talk with Kamille alone.
Once they were alone and Rise was already in condition to talk, the two stared at each other. Kamille sat beside Rise in the bed, their hands interlocked with each other.
Slowly, warm energy flowed from Rise towards Kamille. Kamille’s eyes widened slightly and was about to say something, but Rise just smiled.
"I’m your guide," Rise emphasized each word, playful but also mindful of the other’s emotions.
Kamille was used to Rise setting up the mood when they were about to have a serious conversation. Moreover, he was well aware that he needed this.
Only with this connection would he feel Rise was truly alright, and he was real.
"You just woke up. Don’t tire yourself." Kamille did not reject the guiding and relaxed his body.
Rise usually said a few flirting words, but they had a lot more important things to talk about. While guiding the other, he opened his mouth to ask what he was curious about.
"How did you find us? The place should have been hidden by that being." Rise locked eyes with Kamille, the guiding wavelength steadily spreading through their bodies.
Kamille tightened his hold in Rise’s hand.
"I used Thalia’s trail." Kamille started to tell Rise what happened.
As days passed since Rise’s disappearance, Kamille grew more and more agitated. His temper flared, and he did not care anymore about his identity and reputation.
While others called him a noble, though not entirely sure and only a slander, it was actually the truth. Kamille swept cities and imprisoned those he found suspicious.
The entire Blue Guild was an important piece, especially Epsilon. Kamille’s actions touched the Union and the government’s bottom line, and were besieged everywhere he went.
That was when he met the Union General, who was also searching for Rise, and the two teamed up. Niftan used his connections to help Kamille and provide hideouts for him to stay.
During his investigation, he noticed Thalia’s suspicious actions. Kamille did not question her but let her. He knew that a gaze was focused on his every action, and to further occupy that someone, he intensified his reckless actions.
It gave Thalia time to locate Rise. That was when the problem arose. Just as Kamille was about to find where she went, she also disappeared.
Kamille could not locate her anymore. If not for this, he would have already found Rise and Thalia without them fighting until exhaustion.
"I couldn’t find the place, but I didn’t stop searching for the abnormality. I’m sure the location will show itself. And I’m right."
Kamille sensed the abnormal and fragile space, the malice covering in one direction. He needed some time to enter, and so he was delayed.
"I’m not late..." Kamille lowered his face and kissed the crown of Rise’s head deeply. He fully displayed fear in his voice, a vulnerability only Rise could see.
Rise bit his lip and embraced Kamille. His tone filled with remorse.
"It’s my fault. I’m so sorry..." Rise’s tears moistened his eyes as he poured out the same emotions bottled in his heart.
The two embraced each other, unable to let go for a long time; only Rise’s sob and the beating of their hearts could be heard.
