Akayoroi’s voice dropped to a whisper, but it trembled not with fear — only the weight of ancient law.
"It is the rule of my kind... of the old carpenter bloodlines," she said, stepping into his shadow now. "When a queen submits to a male Ant, she must offer her purity the same day. If not... she will lose the right to bear any children. Her womb will wither. The pact will decay. It only happened twice in the thousands of years of history of my colony."
She paused, her antennae lowering as though ashamed.
"It is not a superstition. It is instinct burned into our marrow. A sacred rhythm of body and spirit passed through generations. We were born to build — but only when the pact is sealed in full. And I have chosen you, Kai. Not because of conquest... but because you gave me something no one ever offered."
He didn’t ask what she meant. He felt it — deep in the silence that hummed between their breaths, in the fragile ache behind her proud words.
Kai lowered his head again, not in dominance, but in acknowledgment. "You knew what this meant. You didn’t have to do it."
