I Became an Ant Lord, So I Built a Hive Full of Beauties

Chapter 51: Shimmering Secrets

---

"Hey, what are you doing? Don’t you wanna eat? Are you angry because Darius let you and Renna fight the enemies alone?" It was Lomar, a three-star rank fighter, asked with a gentle concern, stepping into view with a questioning gaze.

Kai quickly composed himself, offering a relaxed smile. "No, I’m not angry. I just came here for a quick piss. Let’s head back, Lomar. Is the meat roasting done yet?"

Satisfied with Kai’s casual response, Lomar nodded and they returned side by side to the warm glow of the campfire. The others were already fully engaged in their meal, laughter and conversation filling the air.

Kai cast a subtle glance back into the forest, relieved no one had witnessed his covert feast. For now, everything seemed perfectly normal.

The blazing noon had given way to a quiet, tense calm as the team finished their meager meal. The ambush of the insect beasts was now but a memory. In the cooling light of mid day, the five ant warriors, and Kai prepared to resume their journey. The soft rustling of leaves and the gentle murmur of the forest provided a deceptive veil of peace over the rugged path ahead.

Kai rose from his quiet rest on a bed of cool moss. The team gathered their supplies and readied themselves for another stretch of the journey, an uneasy hush fell over them.

Memories of narrowly avoided traps, the whisper of venomous vines snapping in the air, lingered in every cautious glance and every measured step. Captain Darius’s cold gaze, ever watchful, hinted at hidden schemes that set Kai’s nerves on edge. Even now, in the calm before the next storm, Kai’s heart pounded with the future promise of both triumph and betrayal yet to come.

The team began to march along a narrow woodland trail. The ground was soft with the imprint of fallen leaves, yet underfoot it concealed dangers like hidden crevices, sudden patches of uneven terrain, and slivers of loose stone that could send an ant tumbling into an abyss. As they advanced in a tight formation, Kai observed everything with his well-honed predator instinct, every sense alert to the wild’s capricious moods.
