Chapter 59: Passive Observer
By 4 p.m., Jania was already parked outside Ephyra’s school, her fingers drumming lightly on the steering wheel as she waited.
Finally, she saw Ephyra’s figure emerge among a group of three other students—a boy and two girls. Jania watched as Ephyra exchanged farewells with her friends before jogging over to the car.
"Hey," Ephyra greeted casually, climbing into the passenger seat. "Why are you the one picking me up?"
"I have something to tell you," Jania said as she started the engine and eased the car into traffic.
Eira arched a brow, leaning back against the seat. "What is it?"
"Master Lyle told me the reason you didn’t post the video," Jania began, her tone careful. "To make what you want happen, he suggested partnering with Latham’s Laboratory and offering a contract to your father’s company to construct a new branch. When that’s done, a banquet will be held under the guise of celebrating both the partnership and the Latham family’s eldest grandson’s engagement. The issue? He wants everything finalized in a week. It’s doable, but there’s a lot you’ll need—an authentic recording, a DNA report, witnesses, and so on."
Eira nodded, her expression thoughtful. "I get it. And you’re right—my plate’s already full. I have an art project due next week, tests the week after, and finals right after that. Not to mention the banquet. It’s packed."
"So, what’s the plan?" Jania asked, glancing at her.
"After we confirm the truth about Marianna and her daughter, we still need the DNA test and all the evidence. Then we compile everything and wait for the party," Eira trailed off, her eyes narrowing as an idea sparked. She straightened in her seat. "Wait! Let’s schedule the party for the week after finals. That gives us enough time to prepare without any distractions."
