Chapter 86: Arrested
The trek back to Ashenfall was not a celebratory one. People mourned their friends and family and were angered by Rick’s betrayal. They were grateful that they were able to kill all the bandits, some of them even getting revenge, but that didn’t make the feeling of loss any better.
"What’s up with them?"
"They lost a lot of people."
"My son! Is my son with you?!"
Many people who knew about the raid rushed to the adventurers, hoping to find their loved one still with them. Some were fortunate enough to find their friends and families; others were not.
Gwen’s face went from neutral to sad in an instant. "I feel bad for them. The pain of losing someone you love...I cant begin to imagine how that must feel. Even though I hate my family, I wouldn’t want them to die."
Amaya agreed. "My parents used to be adventurers, and when they almost died on a quest, they retired and started a family. They were upset that I wanted to follow in their footsteps since they almost died in that profession. I now understand why they didn’t approve of that."
"Don’t worry, you two, I’ll make sure to protect you both at all times," Kai reassured them.
When they arrived at the guild, everyone was greeted by Kassandra, who asked for the details. Kai released Sasha and Stacey from his pocket dimension and Rick as well. After that, they explained everything.
"I see." Kassandra gazed into Rick’s eyes with fury. Her stare was so powerful that he passed out.
"Stacey, you take Sasha to the infirmary so she can rest. Since she’s still unconscious, she might have suffered more trauma than you realized. You, too, should also go get checked out. You might have some lingering trauma as well."
"Y-Yes, guildmaster."
