Chapter 499: It’s Time to End
"Shen Heyu." This slap not only stunned Lu Yi but also woke him up. It took a moment for him to remember what he had done, and he felt ashamed, barely managing to utter Shen Heyu’s name softly.
"It seems you still know what you’ve done, Lu Yi. I never imagined that you would not only avoid responsibility but also try to push everything onto me. I truly misjudged you. You used to be so kind and gentle. When did you become what you are now?"
If Shen Heyu had known that Lu Yi would turn out like this, she would have rather never met her, never encountered her brief moment of salvation when she needed it most.
"Heyu, listen to my explanation for this matter. It was a desperate measure. Under those circumstances, if I had been arrested, then you wouldn’t have been able to ask others to save me."
"But listen to me, if you had taken my place, I would have used every connection I have to get you out. Don’t worry, I would have never really let you go to jail."
Faced with Shen Heyu’s questioning, he did not show any repentance or reflection; instead, he adamantly insisted that he did nothing wrong, chilling Shen Heyu’s heart completely.
"Weren’t you the one who promised me that you would handle this properly? Is letting me be your scapegoat your idea of handling things?"
Shen Heyu looked at Lu Yi with extreme disappointment. Though the face and voice were the same as the Lu Yi she remembered, the Lu Yi standing before her was a completely different person from the one in her memories.
"Heyu, don’t be mad. Please, hear me out. Okay?" Lu Yi reached out to grab Shen Heyu’s arm, but she coldly dodged his touch.
Shen Heyu regarded Lu Yi as if he were a stranger. Her heart felt as if it had been sliced into pieces, and the image of Lu Yi she held could no longer be pieced back together.
"There’s nothing more to discuss about this matter. Even if you lie and avoid responsibility for the moment, you can’t escape it for a lifetime."
"Next Monday at nine in the morning, let’s meet at the Civil Affairs Bureau to get our divorce papers. This marriage was never substantial to begin with. Since it’s all been a farce, it’s time to end it."
