Chapter 46
As the gang continued to eat, the door to Burger World suddenly swung open, and a group of police officers entered. Their guarded expressions immediately created an uneasy atmosphere in the restaurant. The usual chatter around the tables quieted, and all eyes fell on the officers as they approached the counter.
"How can we help you, officer?" George, the manager of Burger World, asked with a nervous smile. He was a slim man with red hair and a short stature, his unease showing despite his calm exterior.
"We have reports you might be harboring a known criminal," the officer responded, his voice stern.
"Who?" George asked, raising an eyebrow, genuinely confused.
"Terrance Hog, recent fugitive from the law with charges of first-degree murders and kidnappings," the officer answered, eyeing the room with suspicion.
"How do you know that?" Danny asked, his curiosity piqued.
"Facial recognition, Dan, isn't that right?" Tucker chimed in, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he leaned back in his seat, arms crossed.
"We gotta use the most effective method or things will get awry," the officer replied, clearly trying to stay serious despite the banter from Danny and Tucker.
"Have you ever arrested someone who was innocent?" Danny asked, a skeptical tone in his voice.
"Oh, all the time. It's crazy how many people we arrest that didn't do anything," the officer said with a nervous laugh. "I mean, we probably arrest more innocent people than we do criminals. (nervous laugh) It's crazy."
"Doesn't that seem like kind of a flawed system?" Danny shot back, his brow furrowed.
