Chapter 19
A week had passed, and Danny felt like a completely different person. The change had been gradual, like the slow build-up of a landslide—subtle at first, but now impossible to ignore. He had taken a deep dive into understanding what it meant to be a hero, and while he knew it had a lot to do with Naruto, there was no denying that the feeling of doing good—of helping people—had become addictive. It was an emotional high he couldn't quite explain, but it was something he craved more of.
People in the city started noticing Danny. Whether it was cleaning up an abandoned park, helping an elderly woman cross the street, or donating food to the homeless, Danny was there. He was no longer the quiet, indifferent guy he had once been. He was out there, in the world, engaging with it. The glow of self-satisfaction was almost constant, but it wasn't just about the warm feeling he got from doing good deeds. It was the deeper understanding of why he was doing it, and why it felt so right.
Despite the silence from Tucker and Sam since that ghost incident, Danny kept busy. He had given Sam a necklace and Tucker a ring, both adorned with the P symbol for Phantom. They were meant to warn them of any nearby ghosts, and so far, they hadn't encountered any serious threats. The Ghosts he faced were minor, just like the one from the party, nothing that required him to break a sweat.
Instead, Danny had focused his energy on his family. For the first time in years, he actually made an effort to understand them—his parents, his sister. It wasn't easy at first; years of distant relationships couldn't be erased in a week. But slowly, Danny started breaking down those emotional walls that had been built up for so long, and the closeness he'd been missing finally started to form.
After the thugs incident, Danny had worked at Sebastian's store as a cashier for the past week. It wasn't glamorous work, but it felt fulfilling. He liked earning something with his own hands, doing something simple, even if it was just a small, everyday job. He also planned to work as a waiter at a restaurant, then rotate through different roles, trying to understand how everything in the real world worked.
School, too, had undergone a transformation. No more bullying. Dash, the school's long-time bully, had learned the hard way when Danny had beaten him without breaking a sweat. Since then, the students had either feared him or tried to get close to him. Danny wasn't interested, though. He could see through their shallow attempts—most of them were just looking for an easy connection to someone powerful. The body language, the words—they didn't fool him. They weren't on his level.
His grades had been improving as well, which was no surprise given the enhancements to his mind. The teachers were impressed, but there was an edge to their reactions now. They didn't know how to deal with him. His questions, the ones that dug deeper than what they had been taught to answer, left them speechless. Danny was quickly becoming an intellectual force, questioning everything and writing down ways to handle the situations he encountered. Every experience, every interaction, was another lesson.
The week had not only been transformative mentally but physically as well. Danny had been rewarded for his efforts with significant upgrades. First, there was the Fireblade, a bike that Danny had always dreamed about. He also received an upgrade in the Lady Killer skill, which, though Danny didn't fully understand, gave him an uncanny ability to charm others with ease. His skills in basic subjects had been enhanced, making learning even easier. Trap-making skill, strategic mind, combat expertise—his body had reached the level of an athlete, and his experience was that of someone who had been fighting for years.
But the most surprising reward had been the Undying Will skill, though it was at a low level. Danny had asked Naruto about it, but Naruto was vague, telling him it was something he needed to work on, something that would require time.
Danny didn't understand it fully, but he knew Naruto was serious about it. There was an underlying warning in his tone.
What Naruto didn't tell Danny, however, was that the Undying Will skill was not just a boost. It could change everything. If Danny ever tried to fully activate it, his mind would start to mirror Naruto's. Their wills would overlap, and in the battle between them, one would inevitably take over the other. And Naruto knew that if that happened, Danny's individuality would be lost.
