Chapter 64: Royal Palace
The sky above the capital city of Valantharia was bright today. Not too hot, and not raining either. The city bustled as usual—merchants shouting to sell their goods, children running through the crowds, and soldiers patrolling with stiff, disciplined steps.
But one thing was different today—Alvaric had arrived, bringing with him fury and vengeance.
The carriage that carried him and Tamae rolled through the main road, drawing curious stares from the townsfolk. Not because the carriage was luxurious—on the contrary, it looked plain. But the aura emitted by its passenger was strange... and disturbing. Overflowing with murderous intent.
The carriage stopped right at the grand courtyard leading to the Royal Palace of Valantharia. This was the furthest Tamae could escort him.
"This is as far as I go," said Tamae as she stepped down from the carriage first. She stood by the door, gazing at Alvaric, who still sat inside.
Alvaric slowly opened his eyes. The air in the capital felt different—heavy, pressing... and filled with magic that felt off. As if someone was watching him from somewhere unseen. He felt curious, but there was no time to investigate.
He stepped down from the carriage.
The palace before him towered high. Crystal pillars, walls layered with defensive magic, and tight security. Dozens of guards stood watch before the massive gate, all wearing full armor and wielding powerful magical weapons.
"Thank you," said Alvaric.
Before Alvaric could walk forward, Tamae placed a hand on his shoulder. Feeling her touch, Alvaric turned to look at her. Tamae’s expression was worried. She couldn’t even meet his gaze directly. There was a trace of guilt in her chest.
"Are you really going to do this?" she asked softly. Her eyes were serious—not like a soldier’s, but like someone trying to save another from a wrong choice. "You won’t win against them. If you want to back down, now is the time." She tried to dissuade him.
