Chapter 436: Taking Action
There... hidden behind a glass panel... was something she had deliberately ignored until now.
It was a spherical device, no larger than a basketball.
Its surface shimmered faintly with an internal glow.
This was a core amplifier.
A weapon capable of amplifying energy output several times over for fighters.
In the wrong hands, it could wipe out an entire battlefield.
This was the reason why even in the first apocalypse, she never dared to use it.
She had put it away in this mansion like a decorative piece.
She looked at it for a while more before shaking her head.
"Not yet..." She muttered under her breath.
She then turned away decisively and left the room.
When she returned to the real world, she found Lu Zhen already waiting in the living room.
Turns out he hadn’t left to go fishing yet because he was worried about her.
"You’re back," he said, his eyes immediately landing on the bag in her hand.
Leng Pan nodded and placed it on the table.
"I brought a few things."
Lu Zhen opened the bag and examined the contents.
Even with his composure, a flicker of surprise passed through his eyes.
"These... are indeed far beyond anything we have right now."
"That’s why we have to be careful," Leng Pan replied. "Only the research team should see them. And even then, in parts."
Lu Zhen closed the case and looked at her.
"You are right. We have to start working on these right away. If another battle breaks out, we might not be able to hold on." Lu Zhen said with a sigh.
"That’s true. We have to take action immediately." Leng Pan said. "The aliens won’t give us time to catch up. We need to shorten the gap as much as possible."
For a moment, silence settled between them as they looked at the weapons on the table.
Then Lu Zhen stepped closer and gently brushed a strand of hair away from her face.
"You are incredible, Baby, don’t think too much and don’t overwork yourself."
Leng Pan leaned slightly into his touch.
"If I don’t work hard, who will?"
Lu Zhen smiled faintly.
"Alright, once this apocalypse is over, let’s travel into the universe." Lu Zhen said this as a joke because both of them knew that they couldn’t travel through planets, however, that careless remark might just come true in the future.
Later that afternoon, the research team was gathered in a secure section of the base.
Lu Tao stood at the center, practically vibrating with excitement.
"Alright, everyone, prepare to have your minds blown," he said dramatically.
"Can you get serious at a time like this?" Leng Pan reprimanded her brother-in-law.
"Yes, Commander!" he straightened immediately and opened the bag he had been carrying.
Gasps echoed through the room as soon as the contents of the bag were exposed.
Even the most composed researchers couldn’t hide their shock.
"This... this level of craftsmanship..."
"The energy density alone is incredible..."
"It’s like nothing we’ve ever seen..."
Leng Pan watched their reactions carefully.
"This is only a fraction of what exists," she said. "Your task is not to replicate it entirely...that’s unrealistic for now. Instead, study the principles behind it."
The researchers nodded eagerly.
Lu Tao had already picked up the energy blade.
"Look at this structure... the energy channeling is insanely efficient... if we can replicate even ten percent of this..."
Lu Hao stood nearby, watching silently.
"Can I test it?" he asked.
"Not yet," Lu Tao replied without looking up. "Let me understand it first before you go around slicing things."
Lu Hao didn’t argue with his younger brother and nodded.
He didn’t mind waiting.
Meanwhile, outside the base, Lu Zhen and his team had already begun their second fishing expedition.
This time, the waters were more active.
Fish swam in dense clusters, occasionally splashing against the surface.
"It’s like they’re multiplying," Assistant Yao muttered.
Lu Zhen narrowed his eyes.
"That’s a possibility. But they might also be gathering for some reason."
Lu Hao glanced at the water.
"There’s something different here today..."
Before anyone could ask what he meant,
SPLASH!
A large fish leapt out of the water, its body shimmering unnaturally in the light rain.
It landed heavily near the boat, thrashing violently.
"Careful!" Assistant Yao warned.
Lu Zhen grabbed a spear-like rod and drove it through the fish.
The fish struggled for a few seconds before going completely still.
They all stared at it in shock.
It was larger than the others and nothing like the fish they had caught the previous day.
And its scales... had a faint metallic sheen.
"Mutation is accelerating," Lu Zhen said quietly.
Lu Hao crouched slightly, observing it.
"It’s still not infected," he said after a moment. "But it’s definitely changing."
Lu Zhen nodded.
He stood up and looked at the horizon.
Between the floods, the evolving creatures, and the looming threat of aliens, one thing had become clear,...
The apocalypse wasn’t slowing down.
If they didn’t keep up, humanity would have no hope of survival.
Back at the base, as the dim sun dipped behind the clouds, Leng Pan stood on the rooftop once more.
The light rain falling on her as if it was washing away doubts.
Her gaze swept across the flooded city.
Some buildings had already been completely submerged under water and debris floated everywhere she looked.
People rowed their boats towards their respective hideouts after little to no success in looking for supplies
The world had changed in just under a year.
Hope and despair coexisted in every corner.
But unlike before... Something was different now.
People didn’t just want to survive, they wanted to overcome the apocalypse and restore humanity to its peak.
Thinking of the weapons she had provided for research, Leng Pan gained some confidence in finding a way to completely wipe out the aliens from earth.
Seeing her husband’s boat approaching their building, she pulled herself from her thoughts and headed down to their apartment.
’The apocalypse is taking a different shape from today.’ She thought, stepping into the apartment.
