Chapter 310: Uphold Justice
The people around, seeing the situation, all got up and scattered to the sides.
A little girl looked at the seven or eight burly men, tugged at the clothes of the middle-aged man beside her with a fearful face, and said, "Daddy, those people are really fierce, won’t you go help that big brother?"
The middle-aged man quickly covered the little girl’s mouth and said, "Silly girl, if you encounter such a thing in the future, you mustn’t act rashly to help, or you’ll suffer the consequences too."
The little girl looked puzzled, "But, teacher said we should help when someone is being bullied, isn’t helping others a traditional virtue of ours?"
The middle-aged man said helplessly, "Those are just virtues from the textbooks. In today’s society, the cost of helping others is too high. If you try to help, it’s easy to be scammed for money. Did you forget how a classmate’s dad helped an old man who had fallen over, only to be blamed by the old man insisting he was pushed? That ended up costing them tens of thousands. When there’s no good deed that goes unpunished, it’s best that we don’t do good deeds, especially for ordinary families like us who can’t afford to be swindled."
The little girl seemed to understand but didn’t really. Nevertheless, she nodded her head and took refuge behind the middle-aged man, no longer suggesting to help.
A few young men full of vigor watched this scene and immediately felt the urge to step in and do something about it.
One of the young men said, "Damn, these people are too despicable; let’s go help that guy."
His companions, faces filled with anger, agreed with the suggestion.
However, as they were about to step forward, a middle-aged woman stopped them.
