Chapter 44: What Do You Think It Is?
"I find it quite amusing if I’m to be honest."
"Oh. Is that so?" Evelyn cracked a smile. "You think I’m entertaining? Well, that’s new information. I thought I was making you miserable—that I was driving you out of your mind."
Zayne shrugged. "Sometimes."
She batted her lashes at him, her growing smile almost a threat. "See, if you don’t let me sleep peacefully in that guest room, you’ll wake up to a lot of mess."
"What more can you do that I haven’t seen? Put salt in my coffee? Shiver me timbers. You frighten me, baby girl."
He laughed, tone condescending.
Evelyn narrowed her eyes at him, biting hard into her lips. His thumb rubbed at her chin, freeing her bottom lip from her bite. "You’re going to hurt yourself," he said cackling under his breath.
She didn’t even get to bite back, because he’d rolled off into the empty side of the bed.
"Get enough sleep. You have your company to deal with tomorrow. I won’t be there with you."
"I don’t need you to! I can handle myself just fine!" She got up, proceeding to leave the bed, his arm, however, came around her waist, grabbing and yanking her back down into the material.
"Let go of me!"
