Chapter 279 - 10 Drowsiness
Next was the house she would live in. Lin Xiaoguai, a bit greedy, thought that the bigger, the better. Growing up in the countryside, perhaps due to the spacious rural homes, she had always preferred wide-open spaces and couldn’t adapt to the cramped quarters of apartment buildings.
For this reason, even though she was planning to construct an apartment building this time, she didn’t intend to follow the example of future property developers, who built floors with ceilings as low as 2.8 meters and even as cramped as 2.5 meters, where the reduced ceiling height after installation of suspended ceilings made it difficult to breathe.
According to her plan, the apartment building was to be a modest high-rise of twelve floors, providing one-bedroom, two-bedroom, three-bedroom, and four-bedroom two-lounge layouts for employee housing, distributed based on the employee’s position and length of service. Initially, everyone could only choose a one-bedroom apartment, but of course, if a household had more than two members working on the farm, they could be considered for different layouts as appropriate.
As employee dormitories, Lin Xiaoguai didn’t plan to make the property rights available for purchase by the employees, but she did plan to establish a rule that any employee who worked on the farm until retirement would own the property rights to the assigned apartment.
Thinking about how most of the apartment building would stand empty for many years, Lin Xiaoguai sighed. She knew this was wasteful and that daily cleaning and maintenance would be troublesome. However, with national policies changing every year, she wasn’t sure if she could still build the apartment block a decade from now if she didn’t build it today.
This matter had to be set aside for now until the apartment building was constructed; then she could decide whether she could rent out the apartments.
Bringing her wandering thoughts back, Lin Xiaoguai once again focused on the planning for her own residence.
Because she would live there, operate a storefront, and bring over three elderly family members, Lin Xiaoguai planned to create a comprehensive workshop-style private studio. Therefore, she planned to build a terraced villa-style residential building that was both connected and independent.
