"What?" After hearing Shen Chi’s words, Lin Xiaoguai looked utterly bewildered.
Shen Chi felt somewhat embarrassed and scratched his face, asking weakly, "What do you think?"
"What do I think, my foot!" Lin Xiaoguai tapped his head angrily. "I want to open a shop, not farm a field. Why would I need hundreds of acres? You even said it yourself, if we contract the land, it can only be used for farming and livestock. How am I supposed to open a shop?"
"I’ve asked, and although it’s agricultural land, one percent of the area can be developed for building. Once built, you can apply for a property title at the relevant department," Shen Chi offered somewhat eagerly.
He really had no other options. After nearly two months of searching for a location near the Military District that also met Wanwan’s needs, this was the only place available, and it was specifically intended by the government for a grain production base.
As far as he knew, the land was originally used as a collective training area for the troops, but in recent years, collective training had moved to the mountains on the outskirts of Beijing. Over time, the land had been vacated. The authorities thought it a waste to leave it idle, so they decided to lease it out.
Seeing that vast area of nearly three thousand acres so close to the Military District, it was clear the produced grain was intended to supply the military. Fortunately, they wouldn’t have to lease all of it; such a large tract wouldn’t be sold as a bundle.
"What about the rest of the land?" Lin Xiaoguai retorted irritably. "Do you expect me to stop being a Major General and start farming? It’s one thing to grow some fruits and vegetables at home, but I have neither the energy nor the desire to manage hundreds of acres, let alone crops like rice and wheat that I’ve never farmed outside the space!"
"Uh... well, you don’t necessarily have to grow grains or vegetables; you could plant fruit trees, which are easier to manage," Shen Chi said, somewhat sheepishly.
"You make it sound so simple!" Lin Xiaoguai scoffed. "Managing hundreds of acres, just watering once could kill a person. Do you think those fruit trees won’t have pests?"
