He sensed death.

Blanton pressed him. Klion watched the scene silently. Behind Robespierre was Heerlein who committed her life along with him, and he could guess the face she was making even without turning around.
“The 3500 gold coins?”
Robespierre repeated the Duke’s question; he had to buy himself time to think.
“The gold has all been used transparently as research funds.”
