Watching Keter casually offer him a drink, Dust finally understood the strange sense of unease he had been feeling.
Keter does not consider us enemies.
At first, he thought the feeling came from fear of Keter’s martial prowess, or perhaps the tension of impending war. But it wasn’t either of those. Now, Dust was certain that even while facing four Primes, including himself, and the elite forces of the allied families, Keter wasn’t the least bit nervous.
“...Will you answer one question?”
Dust suddenly felt extremely exhausted. An overwhelming weariness washed over him. Keter took a sip of whiskey and gestured for him to continue.
“Have you reached the eight-star realm?”
Dust thought that the only reason Keter could be this relaxed was that he had reached the level of eight-star. Of course, that was absurd. Becoming a Prime before the age of twenty was already unimaginable, but to surpass even that? Yet nothing else could explain his composure.
However, Keter shook his head.
“Not yet.”
“Not... yet.”
It sounded like Keter knew that he would cross that threshold soon. Dust slowly extended his hand.
“I feel like drinking.”
