The eventful interviews at Count Ringaarden’s estate had finally, completely ended.
A few hours later—
“Hey.”
“Yes?”
As I stood there contentedly, gazing at the final selected members lined up neatly in the garden, Lady Meredia’s sighing voice reached me from beside.
“I’m not trying to interfere with your authority or anything...”
“I don’t really mind if you do, though?”
“...Yeah, thanks a lot.”
The fact that Lady Meredia was now adding such unnecessary disclaimers to her speech — when she would’ve just said things bluntly in the past — made me feel oddly nostalgic.
Without realizing, I smiled broadly, and seeing that, the lady sighed again and continued.
“Anyway, don’t you think the number of knights is way too small?”
Just like she said, there were only three people lined up in the garden.
