Chapter 61: Interrogation (3)
‘Did the Pope not hear what I just said?’
That was the first thought that came to mind when I heard his words.
‘Did he just tell me to marry Hestia?’
If the front page of the newspapers for the past few days had been filled with the news of me becoming a Hero, then the second page had been plastered with my public proposal at the arena.
Of course, while it was already known to high-ranking officials like myself and Meredia, it hadn’t been formally announced to the public—so it had spread more like a rumor.
Which meant that within the Empire, its impact was just as great as the Hero’s emergence, and naturally, there was no way the Holy Kingdom wouldn’t know about it.
“Sir Whitney. The current state of the world is incredibly unstable.”
Even so, I had foolishly doubted the intelligence network of the Holy Kingdom, which was known for its rigid sincerity, but the Pope’s next words left me speechless.
“Of course, the appearance of both a Hero and a Saintess is something to be celebrated. But we must not forget that those two have only ever appeared when the world was on the brink of destruction.”
“......”
“To put it more clearly—this means the Demon King’s resurrection is close at hand.”
What came out of his mouth was so painfully logical that I was momentarily left without words.
