Jurim, having shoved the two corpses that had been mangled by their brains into the corner, turned his eyes toward the closed stall.

He carefully opened the door so as not to startle them.
The rusty hinges creaked, and the sound rang in his ears like tinnitus.
Jurim, having splashed his face with water, let out a long sigh.
“This... I can’t do this twice.”
He knocked on his ears as if trying to shake the heaviness from them. Had he pushed himself too hard? It felt like his eardrums had been torn.
With his elbow on the wall, he looked down at the child.
Guru, holding a boy she had never seen before, looked up at him.
“So, I can’t do it twice. Got it?”
Tears welled up in her large eyes. Now that her emotions had caught up with her, the face that had been holding steady turned a bright shade of red.
