Chapter 1390 - 650: The Truth
In a black Dodge car, Little Black sat in the passenger seat, while Jackson was driving.
Little Black was checking his phone and pointing at the road ahead, "Hey, take a right at the traffic light up ahead."
Jackson frowned slightly, "That's not in the direction of Volta Street."
"I know." Little Black glanced at his watch, "It's time for dinner, why don't we eat first before starting the investigation."
Jackson glanced at him, "Are you serious?"
"Of course, I don't want to investigate on an empty stomach."
"There's a convenience store ahead, we can grab a sandwich."
"No, I want a real dinner, that's the only way I can be motivated to keep working."
Jackson said, "I'd prefer to finish work first and then eat."
"Don't be silly, by the time we finish work, all the restaurants will be closed.
Besides, Sharon Frank was driving that night at midnight, investigating later will bring us closer to the time of the crime."
Jackson was finally convinced, "OK, which restaurant do you want to go to?"
"Haha, that's more like it." Little Black directed, "Take a right up ahead, and keep going. There's a great Turkish restaurant; their grilled meat is fantastic and the bread is freshly baked.
I really love it."
...
8 PM.
Near Dawson's Bar.
A black SUV drove up, the passenger seat window opened, and Luke peered out. On the right side of the road was Dawson's Bar, while on the left was a parking lot where three girlfriends parked their cars.
The car drove up to the entrance of the parking lot, the barrier lifted automatically, and the car drove in.
Once the car stopped, Luke got out to look around. The parking lot was quite large, with streetlights around it, not too bright, but enough to see the road conditions.
The officers got out of the car one after another.
The deputy looked around and commented, "This place is perfect for committing a crime. Just hide behind a car, and it's hard to be spotted."
Port looked toward the bar across the street, "There are plenty of scumbags here too, once they're drunk, they'll do anything."
Luke assigned tasks, "Port, take some people to check the surveillance around the parking lot."
"Deputy, you take some people to walk around and see if you can learn anything about the night of the crime."
Luke himself walked toward the spot where the blue Tesla was parked on the night of the incident...
After 8 pm.
Little Black and Jackson finished their meal and continued driving towards Volta Street.
Little Black burped, "How about the grilled meat at that restaurant? Isn't it great?"
Jackson shrugged, "Just regular grilled meat, I don't see why we had to wait so long?"
"I know you're eager to investigate, don't worry, there's plenty of time."
Jackson glanced at his watch, "Don't you want to finish solving the case and go home earlier?"
"Don't be silly, the Captain and the Deputy went with their teams to investigate near the bar, if we finish too early, we'll have to go support them."
Jackson frowned, "So you're stalling."
"No, I think you're misunderstanding. I'm just managing time wisely.
Only when we're full can we work more effectively, understand?"
"Alright, now that you're full, can we get to work?"
"Of course." Little Black snapped his fingers and pointed at Jackson, "I'll make sure you do your job well, rookie."
During the conversation, the car drove onto Volta Street, with Jackson slowing down, and Little Black becoming more serious, observing both sides of the road.
By now, it was close to 9 PM, with night falling. The streetlights were dim; almost no pedestrians could be seen on either side of the street.
In downtown Los Angeles, daytime and nighttime are two completely different worlds.
Jackson slowed down and circled the suspicious section twice, but found nothing.
Little Black glanced at his watch, it was already after 9 PM, "Wait, wandering around like this isn't useful, pull over."
Jackson stopped the car and sighed, "Most of the shops on the side of the street are closed, there's not even a dog in sight, let alone people."
"Hey, rookie, don't be so absolute. There are still quite a few homeless people living on the streets. Don't discriminate against them."
"You know, that's not what I meant to say.
The Captain only said that the suspect's car stayed in this part of the street for a long time, but what Sharon Frank actually did, no one knows." Jackson complained a bit, analyzing, "I thought about it carefully during dinner and came up with two possibilities.
The first possibility is that after Sharon Frank dropped Marissa Hawking and Lacy Wayne off at the Angelitte Community, she was waiting for Lacy Wayne to come and pick up the body to dump it, and she was just parked here for a while, doing nothing else.
The second possibility is that while Marissa Hawking and Lacy Wayne were away, Sharon Frank met someone else here, and this person is likely the fourth suspect we're looking for.
I think the second possibility is more likely.
Only in this way will our investigation tonight have any meaning."
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's investigate according to the second scenario." Little Black looked outside the car, "There isn't much surveillance around here, if we want to find witnesses, we'll have to talk to those homeless people."
"So what are we waiting for?" Jackson pulled up the handbrake, ready to get out of the car.
"Wait, see that store with the lights on? Drive over there."
Jackson looked in the distance, "That seems to be a convenience store, are you hungry again?"
"Those homeless people aren't easy to talk to. If you want to get valuable clues from them, you have to prepare some small gifts in advance."
"OK." Jackson started the car again and drove to the front of the convenience store, "Bring me a coffee."
